My 12 year old son who has autism, likes to hang upside down and I was wondering if anyone here on the spectrum could tell me how it might make him feel and what it does for him.
Thankyou
Rachel

I used to love doing that, ( mostly between 8 and 12/13 ) but only place I ever found to do it safely, that is not in P.E classes with zillions of other children in the area, was at grandparents where they had a bar to hang by my knees from.

It felt great. Like my head was being washed/showered/refreshed inside. And my limbs felt relaxed too. Like I could totally let go, except of the bar of course.

Maybe it's because of some ancient primate/monkey instinct/physical evolution, the need to hang. It felt so natural, and so gooood, like I wasn't having to struggle against gravity to move my body around anymore. Even bed doesn't feel so good.

:study:

I think at times I hanged upside down, I enjoyed experimenting and doing things out of the norm. he probably is thinking that this is different and wants to see what doing this will be like.

Seen it, been there, done that.

Climbed all sorts of stuff and hung from them.
Wish I wasn't so dyspraxic, then it would be easier.

Reminds me also of the time I climbed a corridor (feet on one side, back on the other) and inverted myself carefully so I was upside-down.... sitting on the ceiling. A strangely exciting feeling.

am have always liked being upside down though have never been able to manage it fully,am fall straight over,am still do this and will half go upside down by squashing self down the side of the wallpadding and bed,so am upside down to the waist and am still have control.
am cant describe it exactly, but it seems to normalise inside stuff thats going on,its calming to.

Adverb likes to hang opside down, though he hasn't done it in months. He has a hanging upside down machine.

I loved climbing trees or anything that could be climbed when I was younger. Hanging (not necessarily upside down, but just hanging by my hands from bars and tree limbs) was always pretty satisfying too.

I just had to climb a tree yesterday and I think I still love it. I might climb some trees today.

Interesting. I'll have to try this one in the quiz. I think I know what it should cluster with
