The film "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" will be coming out in October. Its based on the best selling autobiographical Novel by Toby Young, who has mild Asperger's.

"'I have a mild, Asperger's-like condition,' he says. 'I have a half-brother who has been diagnosed with Asperger's." - Toby

Toby's father, Lord Young was very eccentric. Lord Young once brought a Kipper (a fish) to a important ministerial meeting wrapped in old news paper and he handed it to an important official during the meeting, he thought it would be a nice gesture.

I'm looking forward to seeing the film, its good to see the funny side of Asperger's.

Well, if Simon Pegg is playing the lead it should be worth checking out.

Jeff Bridges {or Daniels?} is also in
the movie & he is always good.

Then again, the indie branch of Paramount Pictures,
Paramount Vantage, is distributing in the US
and the majority of their movies have not done very well.

Exceptions being No Country for Old Men
and There Will Be Blood.

I hope that it is a "laugh with" film, and not a "laugh at."

Never heard of it either. I have read How to Win Friends and Influence People. It didn't help me much though.

Wikipedia says: "The film version is a highly fictionalized account, and differs greatly from the work it was built upon."

He sounds like a Mr Bean. I'm not sure if that's a good advertisement for Asperger's. I ordered the book from the library, so I'll let you know.

I've never heard of the book or the movie, but I am really not too sure about it. I don't like the idea of alienating people, but I think a lot of us with Asperger's don't want to do that, so I don't know.

Another Englishman with possible Aspergers
has a book adaptation due in December.

His name is Danny Wallace
and his book is called Yes Man.
It concerns all the good deeds he did
after a man on a bus told him to say YES more.

I'd cringe watching that film. Too close to the bone. I might buy the book instead.
I like Simon Pegg though. Looking at that picture ......... Has he shaved his crown for extra nerdish effect, or is he actually going bald IRL?

I'm looking forward to this because I loved Simon Pegg in Spaced (British television comedy), Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. He's brilliant.

I met Toby Young once on a night out with a mutual friend in New York. I read this book. Very funny. No I wasn't in it.

There was a bit of an embarrassing incident though. We were all in a bar and I think me and my friend had just arrived and Toby was sorting out the group's drinks order with the waiting staff. He asked me what I wanted. When the drinks came, I tipped my glass at him, said cheers, thanks for that (or something like that). He kind of scathingly told me that we hadn't paid the bill yet (or something like that). (It was a very long time ago.)

So, I thought Toby was really kind and that he'd bought me a drink. And it turned out he hadn't. I felt really embarrassed.

I read I story about the author in Empire magazine.

He wa on set during the filming of the movie and he thought that one of the actresses wasn't being given the right instructions from the director, so he tried to give her different ones. She thought that she was being criticize, and complained to the director, who told Young to stop it. Young said: "I wasn't criticizing her, I was criticizing you!"

The director then asked him to leave the set and not come back.
