For those who haven't heard of the new rumors regarding Sarah Palin's "son" Trig not being her own, link is here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/31 ... 386/581332

To me it's going to be a tough choice for the Republicans. Either she lied and her son Trig is really her grandson, or she really flew 8 hours on a plane AFTER her water broke instead of going to a hospital in Texas, and chose to drive past other hospitals with NICU units to deliver her premature, Down's baby at a backwoods hospital.

Assuming that all the information in that article is correct...

It does look very suspicious.

Hey guys, I've got a bridge to sell you...

A woman's water breaking is no emergency. You can go 24 hours+ without even needing medical intervention if you're not contracting yet.

She didn't look pregnant in the youtube video but I don't understand why she would lie. I think it's a bless she became a grandmother at 44 but did she think if the publicity knew, she be shunned for it because she let her 16 year old get pregnant and let her keep the baby?

Yes but no doctor on earth would tell you to go on a plane for 8 hours where you have absolutely no access to medical attention.

I've heard of women working after their water broke, but they were not 1 month premature or carrying a high risk baby either.

I'm not interested enough in the Republican VP candidate to research this in depth. I will just re-iterate my earlier comment that the baby having Down's Syndrome would definitely support a belief that the mother is older, say in her mid-forties, rather than a teen.

She was contracting. If she was the one who was pregnant. And there's a huge difference between possibly not needing medical intervention for 24 hours and putting yourself in a position where medical intervention is impossible to obtain for 12 hours, when you are about to deliver a baby who is likely to have serious health needs.

And Orwell, the age of the mother is statistically interesting, but given that 80% of children with Down Syndrome are born to mothers under the age of 35, in any specific case, the statistics are merely interesting but totally irrelevant. They can't tell us who the mother of any particular child is.

Either Sarah Palin is the mother and used incredibly poor judgment, or she's the grandmother and lied, including using the power of her office to alter official documents. Either way, it doesn't bode well.

McCain Campaign: Palin's 17-Year-Old Daughter Is Pregnant
By Greg Sargent - September 1, 2008, 12:09PM
Stranger and stranger:

The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

There's also this:

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.
McCain knew! Who says Palin wasn't thoroughly vetted?

Late Update: Here's the statement from the Palins:

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

Hm, how about that. There go claims to being the "moral majority" I suppose. Stand up for traditional morality and family values!

McCan't may as well withdraw from this election; he's not going to win.

My Grammy was 16 when she gave birth to my dad. She also married my dad's father.

I don't know much about this situation, so I don't know what to conclude.
