A woman's water breaking is no emergency. You can go 24 hours+ without even needing medical intervention if you're not contracting yet.
She was contracting. If she was the one who was pregnant. And there's a huge difference between possibly not needing medical intervention for 24 hours and putting yourself in a position where medical intervention is impossible to obtain for 12 hours, when you are about to deliver a baby who is likely to have serious health needs.
And Orwell, the age of the mother is statistically interesting, but given that 80% of children with Down Syndrome are born to mothers under the age of 35, in any specific case, the statistics are merely interesting but totally irrelevant. They can't tell us who the mother of any particular child is.
Either Sarah Palin is the mother and used incredibly poor judgment, or she's the grandmother and lied, including using the power of her office to alter official documents. Either way, it doesn't bode well.
