An excerpt from autistic blogger Joel Smiths' "Open Letter to Sarah Palin":
"...If you want America to be a more welcoming place for the kids, are you intentionally or accidentally forgetting about those of us who used to be kids, but now are adults? After all, we - disabled adults - struggled with America being less than fully welcoming for years. One large reason for that is the tendency to see disability, especially developmental disability, as a childhood problem. Historically, the adults with developmental and mental disabilities have been kept out of sight, and as a result, only kids are in the public eye. I’m sure that’s not the world you want for your child, nor is it the world any parent should want for their kid...".

I don't either. I think she's scary. If McCain wins the election and dies in office, we are so screwed. (Don't get me wrong, I don't think McCain is good for this country either.)

I wouldn't be too quick to criticize someone for caring. What good can come of that? I think it's a positive sign that she mentioned special needs and Mccain made a specific reference to autism in his speech last night. It shows they are aware and willing to listen. I have more confidence in their ticket than Obama.

I'm not conservative but I do respect her decision to have her son but BECAUSE she is involved with politics, people have decided to say some really rude things regarding her choice to have a down syndrome child.

I thought this board was against aborting based on disabilities?

I still think she's a two-timing b***h who's just going to betray our efforts for equality. She cannot be trusted further than her infant son can throw her.

Could someone PLEASE explain Yank politics to me ???

Both of your 'parties' seem so vague and inconsistent I honestly can't muddle through what the devil they stand for????

They're two heads of one beast....seriously, one of them is trying to be all centrist and s**t and too p**** to oppose the other one so they meld in, and any one who opposed it gets scapegoated as a 'radical'. Two-party system SUCK.
