Hello! I'm Jon, and 28!

Well, I'm not truly sure what to say here but here is a little about how I got here. My wife (who I have been separated from for many months but that's a completely different story) actually picked up on the good majority of my traits that I never really talked about. When we initially met I made her a checklist of things, my quirks and other "odd" things to expect to come along with me, though I didn't tell her all of them. Over the years obviously everything comes out when you're living with someone, and I really had no explanation for a lot of things other than "That's just how I am", which sounds really self centered. What really got her looking around was my extreme problem with certain sound tones and light, lightbulb cycling (which I never even thought to bring up before because I didn't know you weren't supposed to see that) and some textures (for example I can't touch paper, or handle breath on my skin), audio is the absolute WORST for me though. I'd never told anyone about it before really because it sounded crazy. She would see me sit there on the couch watching TV with her, while another particular sound was going on in the apartment upstairs, or outside in the street, trying to cope with it, I literally physically would sweat, and get extremely agitated, at times sound would crawl up my neck and I would have to shake it off. Then I would get even MORE agitated with myself getting pissed off at the noise for no good reason, and ruining a good moment with her because I would have to leave the room until it was done with. A few times these escalated into what I would call "Incidents" Non-Violent! I'm not a violent guy! I've had this problem since I was very very young. The audio one, which is the worst, didn't kick in until I was near 10...the light and texture have always been there.

Anyways...long story short...a couple of years ago she looked and looked around for a long time, picking things up about synthesesia (which I had -never- heard of before), reading some random threads on other message boards here and there of people with traits similar to mine, and she would let me know "Hey, this person has that same problem with "_" that you do". Every time I'd be respond.."really?? How? Ask more questions!"

Another time she was watching House I think, and they had an episode where they thought he had Asperger, and they explained it a bit, and she went online to read all about it and approached me with it. I said "That is possible...I don't know", the information she had was pretty spread out and a little too vague...so vague that most everybody could fit into their description of it.

I read about this site earlier today and decided to come take a look, and I skimmed a few threads...almost in shock, someone also posted the Employer's Guide to Asperger Syndrome, and this really sent me over the edge. I had NO idea that synthesesia was directly included in it. That just really sealed the deal for me, on top of all of the other websites and resources and actual solid information this place has linked to. I thought I had two completely different things going on. I don't particularly like talking about any of it, in fact I have only ever told one other person I even suspected anything and have just found workarounds for dealing with things, at my expense instead of others most of the time.

Wow. Sorry for the novel. I could've written more but I know how much fun wall's of text are. Oh. Rock Band is the game of the decade too.

I'm in Arizona, love music, videogaming, and alcohol :D I don't get out a whole lot, and I seem to prefer it that way.

Hi :)

I've not played Rockband but I love Guitar Hero. I also love music, videogaming and alcohol and don't get out that much.

I play on PS2 at the moment but want to get a new system. PS3 is obviously appealing because I could play all my PS2 games on it without buying them again. Then again, I read that the backward compatibility is not that good and Wii does look pretty interesting. What console do you play on and what would you recommend to someone looking for a new one?

I primarily play on the Xbox 360, I have a Wii too but it is more for social events for me...I don't find it a whole lot of fun by myself, and I don't have people over often, so it sits there and looks pretty :) I think everyone should have one though, they offer some great spontaneous fun with friends.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 are virtually the same, the differences between the same game on both systems are so minute most people wouldn't be able to tell...if you care about Blu-Ray movies, I would say the PS3 is the better value because a stand-alone Blu-Ray player isn't much cheaper than just getting a PS3 that can play games too. I think they may have cut backwards compatibility out of the new PS3 models too...you will want to check on that if its important to you. Mostly I just like the 360's library of games better though and it has a better online network, more convenient. Though they are very prone to breaking, I'm on my 2nd one now. MS has a 3 year warranty on them all now, but that 3-4 weeks is dreadful :)

Hey, another Arizonan! :) I hope you didn't lose power in that major storm we had recently.

Welcome to WP! :)

I was right in the center of it here in Phoenix! There were power lines in the middle of the street in the morning, it was pretty neat, they said we hit 100mph winds over here. My computer is actually a little messed up from it, I think I need a new power supply, it just decides to turn on sometimes...sometimes not...oh well! I had a blast in it though, until the hail started up! Good to see an Arizonan :)

Hi, welcome. Sounds are the worst for me too. It is a curse and a blessing. I can't stand the sound of metal scraping against metal. Too young to be married, but I think spouses in general should be more accepting of us Aspies!

I'm near Dobson & Southern in west Mesa. All we got here was a lot of wind and rain and the scariest lightning I've ever seen, and I'm a native Arizonan! Sorry about your computer, but I'm glad you weren't hurt. I started a thread about the storm. If you want to see who some of our fellow Arizonans are you can check it out.

Nice I grew up right at Dobson/Guadalupe, parents still live there, I love that area, and that Macayos...oh yes.. I've actually lived here since I was two, and I have never seen a storm like that one, and we've had some BAD ones! The thunder where I am at never stopped there was no break, it was just a constant boom and chugging sound. I tried to get video with my cell phone but it records at like 10 frames per second which isn't nearly enough for the lightning. I have always had a sick fascination with storms like this :) I'd be a tornado chaser if we had them!

Those are great photos and video in that link. I never even bothered to check the photos and damage afterwards, just what I heard people talking about at work :)

I like that Macayo's too. I used to go to Manuel's until someone introduced me to Macayo's. I grew up near Priest & Southern, but I've lived in various parts of the Valley since then. I've been here for around 9 years now.
