The 70's had heaps of great bands, but I can't go past the Waters-led era of Pink Floyd of the 4 album series Dark Side of the Moon ('73), Wish You Were Here ('75), Animals ('77) and The Wall ('79). The four albums were so successful, they're still selling today. Top songs from them include:

On The Run
Time
The Great Gig In The Sky
Money
Us and Them
Wish You Were Here
Shine on You Crazy Diamonds Parts I-IX
Welcome To The Machine
Have A Cigar
Pigs On The Wing
Dogs
Sheep
Pigs
Another Brick In The Wall Part I-III
Mother
Goodbye Blue Sky
Empty Spaces
Young Lust
Hey You
Is There Anybody Out There?
Comfortably Numb
In The Flesh
Run Like Hell

280,000,000 album sales can't be wrong. Apparently, DSOTM still sells like 400,000 copies annually in america alone.

It's by Alicia Bridges and the title is I Love the Nightlife. :)

As for me, there is so much good stuff from the 1960s through early 1990s that I cannot just focus in on a small handfull of them.

Early-mid 1970s R&B/soul is exceptionally good, stuff by the Spinners, OJays, 4 Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Isley Brothers, etc. Also the early and late 1970s stuff from the Bee Gees, like Massachusetts, Nights On Broadway and Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) and stuff from the surprize smash hit album Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton.
