What do you mean by socially inept, if I may ask?

Not being good at making or keeping friends due to finding socialising difficult, not through being nasty to them. Bascially not being good socially.

And are you closest to being an Aspie than any other neurodiversity? Is that why you're on WP?

I feel I am very close to being an Aspie, but I do not fulfill all criteria, therefore I am not an Aspie. I am on WP because I find answers to questions about socialising and because there are loads of people here who seem to experience the same problems as me and because I feel like I fit in here.

Not that I think only people with AS are friendless, but I do think that the most outcast of people are those who pose a challenge to their denial systems.

The bit I have put in bold - what do you mean by this please?

It's rare for an Aspie to meet all the criteria. I've read the social ineptitude (caused by inability to read social cues) is sufficient for diagnosis. I myself am apparently NVLD, not AS...

To explain what you put in bold, though it's unrelated to the topic of this thread:
I believe the kind of people that are least tolerated (let alone liked) are those who say the king is nude, and thus destroy the delicate balance of society, which is based on much denial and appearances. There's a wonderful scene in Titanic where a group are going the wrong way in the boat looking for the exit, and someone points it out to them, and their reaction is to demonize him. Some say the movie Titanic is an allegory to the life of Jesus.

I read some articles about NVLD, but I tend to be very visual, so it didn't really fit (although aren't Aspies supposed to be very visual too?). Although part of my being very visually orientated is probably due to my auditory processing problems.

Even if I did fulfil the criteria necessary for a diagnosis, many would argue that they do not affect me enough. Certainly my mum (whom I love very much, by the way) would tell me to stop being so stupid (even though she called me sick in the head when I was younger :( ).

EDIT: I have problems enough to make socialising and reading social cues, using social skills etc. difficult, but they're not 'non-existant' enough to be classed as Asperger's, I would have thought.

So what you're trying to say is most people who have social problems are like that because they are oppositional?

I am able to so I do. You should check out the topic I posted here a while ago about how I do it, if you feel like it.

No, because saying the king is nude and being oppositional is two completely different things.

NLVD, I believe that's what I have because anything that is not said with words, I don't see. And conversely, anything that is said with words I believe to be what's being meant, oblivious to what is being said without words that cancels it.

Sorry, then, but I do not understand the phrase 'the king is nude'.

But isn't that extremely similar to autsim/Asperger's?

I think you might enjoy the fable "The Emperor's New Clothes". Probably easy to find on the web and it's very sweet. That's where the expression "the king is nude", which Aspies identify with often, comes from.

NVLD is a close cousin of AS indeed. The major difference is that while AS often have above average visio-spatial ability, NLVD are almost always way below average at it. We make very bad Engineers, for example.
