Republicans may be a bit down in the mouth right now, because of Obama's heavy lead in the latest polls.

However, I just watched Barbie and the Diamond Castle, and I know exactly how the Republican party can turn things around dramatically.

This is the exactly the sort of movie out of which the Republican party can make a major issue that will lead to victory, because Barbie and Theresa do not end up marrying princes. Instead, they decide to live together in their little cottage in the countryside, where they earn their keep by raising and selling flowers. They are quite unimpressed with the two handsome young men who just happen by to save their lives on a couple of occasions. The Republican issue, of course, is that the movie is subverting traditional American values and promoting alternative lifestyles. Karl Rove could probably develop a master strategy where Obama's daughters watch the movie and their father doesn't express rank disapproval. Then, American voters would forget about the war, the economy, and gas prices, and vote Republican.

That's basically what happened in 2004 with Kerry... Republicans painted him as completely indecisive to avoid talking about substantive issues.

However, with the economy even further in the shitter than in was in 2004, and american taxpayers having to pay more to bail out these companies, means that americans are not going to be as easily misled.

Also, the largest 18-30 year-old voter base in many decades will be voting in 2008, and these people who grew up with this kind of politics will be more easily able to see through it.

The problem we face now is that no matter who is elected president, we as taxpayers will have to shoulder the burden of the current financial crisis. The only real choice is between higher taxes or an increased federal deficit.

Sooner or later, it'll all come crashing down, and who ever is in office at the time will get most of the blame.

So, the Republicans may feel that it would be in their best interest to lose this one. Obama absorbs the blame, and then the Repubicans can return and establish a Republican dictatorship, replete with political correctness.

Republicans have been seeking to associate Obama with sex education for kindergarteners, but it doesn't seem to have caught on.

I think that the Barbie angle might be the Republicans' best bet right now. If only Mrs. Palin's teenaged daughter hadn't become pregnant out of wedlock. That is the only thing that might prevent the Republicans from seizing the moral high ground. Probably her daughter could have benefited from some sex education, or some more careful parental oversight.

Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter didn't prevent the republicans from taking the "moral high ground" in 2004...

That is very true. They were still bashing gays, but taking an "awe shucks" type of attitude towards what they would denounce as a major disgrace, if it had concerned the daughter of a Democratic candidate. The Republicans always end up the moral authorities no matter what.

Speak for yourself... I see the republicans as slightly more corrupt than the democrats... although both parties are fairly corrupt so it's not really an indication of "moral authority"...

I'm just hoping they don't resort to the strategy they used at the last election around this area, where they went around with clip boards getting people to register to vote, then threw away the registrations of anyone that went Democrat.

A lot of the tactics used in 2004 won't work now, mainly because of the current state of the economy...

Well, that would be an effective strategy.

I remember past elections where attention was focused on prayer in school, reciting the pledge of allegiance, Willie Horton, a Thousand Points of Light, flag burning, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Michael Dukakis in a tank, etc. Things that were absolutely garbage, but where the Republicans quite craftily diverted public attention away from issues that should have been important to voters.

I'm just wondering what the strategy is going to be this time around.

The Republicans are always positioning themselves as anti-abortion, but, when elected, never actually do anything about it. So, in any real sense, abortion is a non-issue.

Don't forget the demonization of the word "liberal", and its subsequent direct association to not liking George Bush...

Well we've already heard the lapel pin line and the "Obama bin Laden" spiel, but those didn't generate the waves that the republicans wanted. Again, I cite the fact that things have gotten that bad that americans aren't as easily distracted as they were in 2004...

In addition, the democrats are much more unified in this election than they were in 2004. Remember how many democrats didn't vote in 2004 because of Kerry being their nominee?

That's just the line used to appease the fundies for a few extra votes... pandering at its finest...

This is all I'm gonna say before I am gone from here.... I'm not talking about you peeps here, I'm talking about general voters... Does anyone find it disturbingly stupid that most voters vote for candidates right now based purely on their race or their gender, most of them without knowing anything about who they'r voting for?
I mean seriously, it's Palin (VP) vs. Obama (P). That's the selling point of both campaigns, it has jack squat to do with what sort of leader they'll be... All their followers usually know how to do is quote slogans when you watch them on tv all they do is quote slogans, they couldn't describe a policy to save their lives...

Honestly, I don't vote. I don't believe in voting because I think it's a scam and we don't have a say anyhow. Besides both candidates and all parties and politicians are ran by the rockefellers, theyr all rockefeller puppets, they answer to lobbying corporations and big industry, definately not the people..... One puppets as good as the next. Either way the same people are still running the show.
