This seems like pretty much the most perfect thread for my intro. Since my obsessions generally define me. Honestly, I always assumed that I was normal and couldn't figure out how BORED everyone else must be to not be spending all of their free time (and work time) becoming experts at whatever their interests were/are. Hahaha. I still thinks it normal because I wouldn't want to be any other way.
I'll probably miss stuff that should be on the list, but this is a start:
- Animal behavior, particularly operant conditioning and how it applies to marine mammals and dogs (and humans and everything else).
- The history of South Africa
- genetics and evolutionary biology/anthropology
- data networking (no longer an obsession - which is a problem since this is my current job )
- photoshop
- digital photography
- regular photography (back in the day)
- painting and illustration
- indian cooking (my husband appreciates this obsession greatly)
- lo carb dieting
- raw food diets for dogs
- running, biking, swimming (off and on at various times)
- golf (has anyone else had to stop golfing? Golf brought out the very worst in me in terms of perfectionism. I became scary even to myself! And I still kind of love the game)
- knitting
- sewing
- bands: Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews Band, Johnny Clegg, Al Jarreau (some of these are old, some are new)
- in the past I've seriously obsessed over unattainable men (the more unattainable, the more obsessed. I've had some seriously intense relationships that were mostly in my head)
- financial stuff (dave ramsey)
- web development/design/programming
- cars
- pc repair
- dogs, dogs and dogs
- dog agility
- herding
- various authors - particularly Paul Auster and Neil Gaimen, but there are others as well - these two are the latest.
- maps (me, too)
- hiking - the trail system in my local park systems
- religion and non-religion
- quilting
- gameboy tetris
- sudoku (waxes and wanes - right now I can't stand it)
- horses
(It's funny - all you have to do is come over and look at my bookshelves as there are sections dedicated to the subjects of my obsessions. My bookshelves are my history)
