SOAWatch has an online petition asking soon-to-be President Obama to sign an executive order
that will close down the infamous School of the Americas, at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Protests against the SOA were getting so loud that the Pentagon changed the name to
Western Hemispheric Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC), but it's still a School of Assassins.
Military officers from other countries (El Salvador, Colombia, Bolivia, et al) attend the SOA in Georgia (USA)
to learn from the CIA techniques of suppressing populist uprisings -- and the techniques taught include the use of torture .
We've been trying to get the government to close this "school" for decades. Now there might actually be a chance
that we can succeed.
