Nope, I think things will get much worse, personally.

"Some positive change" is debatable. I think we'll recover from the recession by that time, but we'll mostly be back to pre-Bush levels of prosperity rather than actual improvement.

When I first saw this thread, I thought this was going to be about the "world ending" in 2012.

Looking at only the USA one might hope that the rather regressive crew that Obama has chosen might realize the errors they have committed in creating the mess under Clinton but the chances are not too good. But the world does not stand still for the USA and India and China are not going to wait around for the USA to come to its senses. Their technology and industry are moving at a fast pace and they are no less brainy than the USA so when the USA finally wakes up to its stupidity it will be left far behind the rest of the world. The Bush and Clinton administrations have mired the country into deep corruption and inefficiency and it may take generations if ever for the USA to recover.

It's going to take more than India finally getting a 4-digit GDP per capita for me to feel threatened.

Your looking at it all wrong - think of India as a nation of 250 million (not 1.2 billion) - and those 250 million people:
a) make 4 times what you think the average Indian does,
b) each have 3 servants
c) buy and sell most products in their own currency, where things cost a fraction of what they do in the west (thus raising purchasing power dramatically).

In those terms, India is not so far behind. Not that it is a threat, but that India is very different that the one you envision.

Positive things. Those low status men still in employment get one step higher up the ladder. Those who are in unemployment get more company.

Yes. The U.S. survived the Civil War, the New Deal and the Carter Administration. I think we will make it through the Obama Administration.
