do other people here have apathy? most the time i am apathetic and emotionless. I doesnt really bother me except for i dont get much done. i dont think im depressed, becaues i dont feel sad and most people with depression feel bad about themselves and that there not good enough, where as i feel just fine with myself and feel that other people are the ones who are stupid. Ive realized i dont care about much because there isnt much reason to care. I dont really care about going out and socializing, or doing things, and would rather stay at home and work than do anything else. I dont like people to do things for me and I like sleeping a lot. Ive noticed lots of aspies are often anxious and overemotional which is the complete opposite for me other than having an anger problem, but i dont even feel angry when people tell me im acting angry. I just dont give a s**t. The only thing that sucks about it is that its so hard to find the motivation to do anything which bothers me becuase i have stuff i should do but its not getting done and i dont know what to do about it but i dont do it because i dont care. I do care about things at times, but its minimal and there are times as well of complete apathy. Does anyone else here relate to this?

I've felt like that at times. I kind of go back and forth between being so apathetic that I want to be alone and being apathetic because I'm so lonely.

You know, I used to be tremendously apathetic about the world and so forth.

During my teenage years, not feeling things was how I got by and dealt with life.

As an adult, I just happened to start caring about things. It wasn't really any conscious effort of my own. All of a sudden, I began to care deeply about Nature and the Environment. I have a son and I care deeply about him and his life. Lastly, but I think most importantly, I am actually now starting to care about myself. I self-sacrificed for years, due to low self-esteem. What I did not realize was this essential equation: if I wish the rest of my life to be OK, I need to make sure that I am OK first. I had it backwards for the longest time. Caring about stuff ain't so bad, provided that I always keep things in perspective.

"apathy" just sounds so negative... for me it's a zen-like state and I'd take it over mood swings and constant emotional ups and downs any day of the week.

well then, of course, there's that. there's always that....
That is what I mean by "perspective": that place inside unaffected by the tides of emotion... always in the present moment. zen. exactly

I can relate to the apathy (as my signature below will attest). In order to motivate myself I
look at things I'm interested in then try to transfer some of the qualities of those interests
to other areas. For example I like football and the whole concept of League tables etc so
I make up tables for all sorts of silly things,e.g. for the amount of times that certain people
appear in my dreams (if I can remember dreams that is). It's a bit unorthodox but it helps
to keep the apathy at bay.

I'd be apathetic if I weren't so lethargic.

I used to belong to an apathy club, but we didn't care enough to have meetings.

Ok, that was dumb. :)

I've been very apathic for a while, than it changed. I think it's possible I turn apathic again, and than emotional, etc...

If apathy was a pie, I wouldn't bother eating it.
