news story here

Quote:
A British museum is looking to spark the creation of an interesting art installation by calling for an artist to live isolated in its tower next summer.

The Manchester Museum, opened in the 1880s on the University of Manchester campus, has issued a posting seeking a new resident artist.

However, the unusual gig will include being closed up inside the museum's Gothic tower for six to eight weeks in late spring and summer.

This might suit a few people here. Anyone interested?

I think I will pass on this offer. But it is important to note what a modern hermit does.

Some catholic monks have been known to live in flats on super rough estates, they go into the flats and then live there as hermits isolated by choice from the rest of the population. I have meet a monk who explained to me how they view a hermit as being a monk or nun who goes into the wilderness to consider spiritual and moral issues alone at length. I think that a person living in populated place but is able to pass their time in isolation is as much a hermit as someone who lives on a remote island.

Yeah... only trouble is, you actually need to make art.

I would love to make art, to have the necessary time and solitude to make art. The problem here is that I live in the US, have six kids to be cared for while gone, and am not sure if it would pay at all (do they buy the art?).

No, I actually want to be somewhat less isolated.

Would I have internet connection, preferably high speed ?

There was a time when I would have jumped at this, my aptitude test said my best fit was working in a fire tower in the woods and I do make "art" but now I am bound to an earthling and though I wouldn't mind a break, he would .

I would love to do that, but I doubt they'd consider me talented enough for consideration.
