I believe in extraterrestrial life, just because chances are it formed somewhere else in this giant friggin' universe. I don't believe they have contacted earth in any way. However I tend to doubt it's intelligent, because humans have existed a very short time relative to the earth, and by the looks of things we won't last much longer. So what are the odds we exist at the same time intelligent alien life does? And even if we do what are the odds we're close enough to conceivably contact aliens?
Actually, this is an excellent argument against the ETH, we have to exist at the same time an incredibly advanced race of aliens exist. If we go much further down the path we're going, there will be very few of us left to contact anyone. Vice versa, an alien race would have had to survive a very long time to exist now and contact us. They would have had to bypass self-destruction and possible destruction from other alien races just to do a flyby of some farmer's field with their landing lights on....
