(haha, i copied the other topic title, HA)

Ok, does autism, in any form, whether classic autism, aspergers, or whatever else, generally run in families? What are the odds of someone ending up on the autistic spectrum even though nobody else in the family is?

There IS a genetic element to it, just like with adhd. My nephew has adhd and AS and my son has HFA and adhd.
I'm suspected adhd (no omega capsules for 2 days, I'm going nuts)

It's genetic.
Fraternal twin probability of having it, if his sibling does : 20.00%
Identical twin ,, ,, ,, : 50.00%
General population member ,, , if no sibling does : 00.60%

It's massively heritable.
If you have it, chances are your dad or mum has it (4:1 - dad:mum).

I'm certain my dad is autistic. He doesn't have a diagnosis, and at 80 years old he's unlikely to, but he is THE most typically autistic man I know. My mum has a degree of sensory integration difficulty, but only mild. My brother is ADHD. And I'm AS/Dyspraxic. So there's definitely something going on here :D

I wonder about that. I am on the spectrum though nobody in my family seems to be.

I have AS, but no one else in my family does.

Does it ever skip a generation?

Thanks,
