It has always amazed me how anyone can honestly say that they are "happy", or "content". Why be happy or content with a life that you did not ask for? Why be happy when you are just one genetic organism out of over 6 billion that are 99% like you? Why does everyone think they are so special? Why does everyone care so much about success when sooner or later it will be all gone infinetely? Before conception you were infinite nothingness and after death, the same thing. 4-5 generations after your birth 99.9% of us will be forgotten and our descendants won't even care we even existed. Some people complain that life is "short and pointless". But why complain about it being short? The "prevailaing" purpose of life is to make money so your kids can go to school to "absorb" information that 95% is not of practical use, so they can get a job, make money and do the same for their kids. See the trend? Life is just a pointless vicious cycle that most likely won't end until some kind of natural disaster. The main drawback of being human is that we have the mental ability to realize that life is dull and meaningless and unfair, whereas other species don't put much thought into anything. My idea of a perfect world would be one with just an ocean, beaches, and islands. No people at all. It seems as though what motivates people is to just compete with other people. I don't know, maybe 500-1000 years from now *if* humans are still in existence and haven't killed each other off, maybe they will look back on today and find all the "purpose" in everything we find dull, stupid, and unfair? Fat chance though.

What kind of meaning would you prefer? I find the world endlessly fascinating and far beyond my present capacity to take it all in. We evolved from single cell organisms that were designed to survive and reproduce. Now I am a strict community of single cells that cooperate intricately to survive, reproduce, and perceive through its limited senses many of the fantastic processes of the universe. I find all this well worth my time of existence to understand.

Of course, no one asked to be born. The cycle of life just keeps on keepin' on and there is no stopping it. Death is certain, but Life is unstoppable.

I can certainly be happy/content with a life I did not ask for because I have some definite control over it. I have free will. I have the power to make changes in my life where and when I choose. But there will always be immutable conditions.

Do you think being bothered and miserable is a better alternative? We are what we are. Get used to it. Let us go from there.

Just as a practical matter, how could you ask to become alive?

No one asked to be born and by our nature we try to stay alive as long as we can. Accept our nature as it is. Go on from there.

It is a huge privilege to become a collection of conscious matter as billions upon billions of sperm never make it every day. The opportunity to sense and understand the universe is extremely rare and the Earth is the only planet so far in the solar system where this occurs. To disdain this fantastic opportunity is a real tragedy and a great stupidity. If you don't like it you are free to kill yourself but that would be a terrible waste of a very unique opportunity. Try to make the most of it. It really doesn't last that long.

What designed the single celled organisms?

[b]Sure you have control over it, all we are is a bunch of sheep that follow laws and do things just to "survive".

You can't come up with a better response because YOU know that what I say is 100% true in every way, shape, and form. YOU know that if you dropped dead tomorrow very few people would care, and the mark you leave on the world is like a needle in the ocean. I know, the truth cringes your forehead.

Huge privilege? I think that's a matter of opinion.

Basically you are saying "Life sucks, deal with it."

"Try to make the most of it. It really doesn't last that long". -- So you are implying that life really is a pain in the rump. And you are right it doesn't last that long. The older we get the faster it goes. I guess that's the only "gift" that this "fantastic universe" has to offer. I feel a little bit better now.

That is not the truth.

I have lived longer than most and found life continuously rewarding. Adolescence may be a tough time but you will get over it. If you are not alert enough and aware enough to appreciate the great privilege of being alive then you have the alternative of killing yourself and getting it over with but I beg you to wait a few years and you might learn that your own ability to determine your life is far better than anyone else's view about what life is all about. My son lived most of his life as a quadriplegic paralyzed from the neck down and on a breathing machine and he found life exceedingly worthwhile with periods of great terror, great enjoyment and huge difficulties in just remaining alive. He managed for thirty years that way and begged to stay alive when he was dying. I'm reasonably sure you are better off and have more opportunities.
