I bought a package of keebler peanut butter crackers. I bought and ate most of them before this peanut butter scare. But there's one celophane 6 pack left. I was wondering what I should do with it.

I didn't know there was a peanut butter scare. But if they're being recalled & you're concerned, call the phone # on the package & ask someone about it. There may even be an email address you can use.

If you didn't get sick(and look like this.. :eew: after eating the first pack, then you should be fine eating the last one.They recalled all of the products as a precaution, since they really arn't sure of where all of the contaminatied peanut butter ended up and in what products.

It really had nothing to do with peanut butter. The contamination had to come from a horribly contaminated processing system. So it might contaminate other products, but it does NOT mean the peanuts or peanut butter from other processors are bad.

Here is the recall I heard about:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Lynchburg, Va. (January 13, 2009) – Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), a peanut processing company and maker of peanut butter for bulk distribution to institutions, food service industries, and private label food companies, today announced a voluntary recall of peanut butter produced in its Blakely, Georgia processing facility because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

All product affected was produced on or after July 1, 2008, specific to the lot numbers and descriptions listed below.

The peanut butter being recalled is sold by PCA in bulk packaging to distributors for institutional and food service industry use. It is also sold under the brand name Parnell’s Pride to those same industries. Additionally, it is sold by the King Nut Company under the label King Nut. PCA customers who received the recalled product are being notified by telephone and in writing.

None of the peanut butter being recalled is sold directly to consumers through retail stores.

I heard about that. If someone in my imediate family gets samolenila, Pippin is off the hook.

The article I read this morning mentioned that people should refrain at this time from purchasing any products made with peanut butter (including cookies, cake mixes, etc) but you should be okay buying peanut butter in jar form. It mentioned that, as far as anyone can tell, none of the major peanut butter plants who jar their own products have been affected by the salmonella issue.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the symptoms of Salmonella take a while to take effect after eating tainted product. So, even if you feel fine now, well.. it doesn't necessarily mean that the crackers were alright. I'd wait a full 24-48 hours to know for sure.. Actually, they might begin to know more about the contamination and exactly which products were effected as time goes on too.. I'd save them for a while and not eat the others, myself.. that's what I would do.. and after that, if there is still doubt about it, I'd probably throw them out..

hehehe well I am certainly not eating peanut butter or serving it to my family... not taking any chances.

So this recall isn't about bad peanuts, it is about CONTAMINATION in the food chain that SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!

About the only problem you can get with peanuts is aflatoxin:

Actually, Reese's cups are safe, since Reese's makes their own peanut butter.

However, other Reese's products besides the normal peanut butter cups might not be as safe. That's what I heard at least.
