*choke* Whaaaa?!

Muslims (particularly the Sunni) have long held science and religion as being largely separate, but by no means is Islam apolitical! The koran is as much a political textbook as it is religious.

Where on earth did you get that idea?

I said USED to... USED to. It's certainly not that way any more. Plus, bear in mind this is just what I heard while listening in on a world religions class. You'd have to ask the professor about the details.

or you could just read the Koran and see for yourself.

I used to have certain verses memorised re. guidelines for beating and using women, but islam apologists always argue that unsympathetic translations make it sound a great deal more misogynistic than it actually was (and i dont know arabic) Even so, i think you can pick up the general idea - its full of men can do this, women cant do that. Some parts do have political overtones, which seem very out of place in a religious text imo.

Religion and the study of it doesn't interest me enough to pick up books. Well, maybe Buddhism, but as I understand it, that's not technically a religion.

This wasn't my opinion. It was the professor's who I happened to have never even met face to face. And he was talking about history which isn't in the Koran (though he was talking about the Koran, too). He was lecturing that day about various political and religious leaders.

But I have no further interest in it at this time. I was merely presenting what I heard. Hearsay. You are more than welcome to continue studying the Koran. I don't prefer to start at this moment in time. I have other things which I'm more interested in.
