Gods blood, have you seen this?! It made me gag.
What the hell was up with those useless celebrities and that crap?
"I pledge to free a million slaves", WTF?! It's that sort of amerigasm crap that makes everybody's trigger fingers itch around yanks...
Okay, I know celebrities are touched in the head as a given, but, come on!!
At least Rove took the piss out of it.

Okay, we get it! You yanks finally have a Kevin Rudd of your own!
Could you please get over it, now? This Obama guy isn't going to magically change the world over night! Firstly; he's the president of America, NOT Earth! Second, America DOES have a senate, and much the same government! Listen to your own guys at south park, nothing will change! So shut it already!!

Not only that Obama has no more idea of how to cure the U.S. feeble economy than the preceding administration. Obama is going to throw money at the problem and hope some of it sticks. I fear Obama sees himself as a latter day FDR. Well if that is so, we are very much in trouble. What ended the Depression for America was the war in Europe and later our participation WW 2. If we have a Grand Slam War, this time the folks at home are going to bleed profusely.

That's excactly the situation here - WW2 ended the depression for us, and now, Kevin Rudd is throwing his financial "stimulus package" into it all.
It doesn't help a damn, though - but, he's just ignoring the Treasurer's complaints'!

Was there supposed to be a link with this? Because I have no clue what event/person you're quoting at the start of your post.

And what are we supposed to 'get over?' What the vast majority of us are celebrating is:

A) Our first non-WASP president, which given our past and current history of racism, sexism and religious intolerance, is a very big deal and will remain so for a while.

B) That Bush isn't in the White House anymore.

C) That not only is Obama not Bush but not a Bush-lemming and the party that has largely gotten us into our current mess(es) now has extremely little power in House or Senate. Preliminary evidence being that he's spent his first couple of weeks reinstating a section or two of the constitution and a modicum of transparency to the presidency. Kind of refreshing to see America going back to living up to one or two of the standards we hold the rest of the world to.

That said, most of us bleeding-heart tree-huggers are quite aware that he is not going to wave a magic wand and turn us into a Utopia by March. Especially economically. But we're back on a path forward, not backward. Don't think I need to go into the details of how the bank execs have shown quite clearly that unregulated, they will only continue to drive their businesses into the ground.

And when American banks fail, it does - like it or not - affect the world. When America starts a war, it does indeed affect the world. So no, Obama is not President of Earth, but his decisions will hold more sway over global economy and events than, say, the leadership of Jamaica.

To that end, I see a huge difference between the right and the left in this country. For the last 8 years we've had a president who would never admit a mistake. Today we have one saying "I screwed up" over something that was hardly his fault. For 8 years we've had a right wing preaching that you can't ever question or criticize the president because that is unpatriotic. I'm guessing they have gone back on that pledge? Today we have left wing pundits who make a point of questioning and criticizing Obama and the left when it's warranted. And Obama doesn't seem to mind having an eye kept on him.

What, did Ted Nugent make a speech somewhere?

Honestly, your post is disjointed and lacks any context - in other words, WTF are you talking about??

There was no link provided, but recently there appeared on Youtube a video of dim bulb Hollywood celebrities pledging allegiance to Obama, not the country or the Constitution but Obama personally. I have only heard of this video, not actually seen it, since there is only so much stupidity I can handle at one sitting.

I presume that said video was filled with the usual dumb pronouncements from the Jet Set, including freeing millions of slaves, feeding the world through hopes and dreams and organically produced barley, switching to renewable energy via carbon credits while their mega mansions burn 30 times the use of the average American house, and so on.

I am still baffled as to why these people are so revered. They have really bad narcissism problems, they're dumber than rocks, they basically regurgitate stuff other people write for them and do it with FEELING so for some reason people think they're creative geniuses. By the age of 40 they're usually trashed from all the drugs they take to tolerate the inconvenient fact that the world does not revolve around them, if not dead from it.

Angelina Jolie has a history of addiction, she's now addicted to kids and is collecting them as if they were dolls. When do we put our foot down and say no, you can't save the world by adopting 12 kids? You can't handle it. I bet her kids are gonna end up in lifelong therapy. She needs a guy who isn't a doormat, which rules out Brad Pitt. That's the worst story in the tabloids, the rest of it is basically who's in rehab and who's driving drunk, and who got trashed in Vegas.

I fail to see why it requires a dozen magazines to report every little thing these idiots do, and for the rest of the space to be taken up by women's fluff rags offering tips right out of the 1950s. There are exactly TWO magazines worth reading in the supermarket racks, Time and Newsweek. That is out of two or three dozen.

I've actually noticed quite a bit of battiness coming out of foreigners when it comes to Obama. Apparently we can export our personality cults too.

Really, though, the Obama cult is dying down (as are his approval ratings...)

He appears to be the current PM of Australia. The comparison otherwise needs clarification I think for those of us who don't live down under.

It's just gotten really, really old, really fast.
Many nations have already had their elections, have already had drastic changes of parties, etc. The Obama party that's been going on is more than a little weak - like when the English finally won the ashes, and had a national holiday...
It's getting on peoples nerves, because, in this case, America is just the fat kid, last to cross the finishing line - and, thinks it's awesome for that.
All over the imported American TV shows, there's the Obama crap. News reports abound of some nutjobs in America going ballistic over the "change".
The better choice to McWhitey doesn't automatically mean "greatest prezident evah, lyke, oh-my-GAWD!'
It's really just the absurd level of media endorsement of Obama that is getting on everybody's nerves.

Incidentally, I should point out, Americas significance is rapidly declining.
With each year, it's leaders decisions affect other nations far less.
In the meantime, don't dismiss the significance of other nations and their leaders.
Nations so small as Jamaica may not affect the world much, but any in the "top twenty" could quickly change the world, all the same.
You Americans really need to learn the distinction between "quantity" (old money) and "quality" (resources).
Take Australia, for example. What if we withheld all uranium exports?
That's about a third of the world supply. Not farfetched, either, considering the strong presence of anti-nuclear special interest groups.
What if we withheld trade exports to Japan over whaling issues?
Unlikely, given the economic input, but plausible. That's 20% of their raw materials, which effects their industries and business, which have heavy investments world-wide.
Full-scale war with Indonesia? How would that affect world rubber and oil supplies?

This annoys people, because everything in the world is going to "change", apparently.
At least, we are bombarded with that nonsense. But, America is not the world; and often, it's effects on the world are exaggerated.

Right now, Americans are percieved to be like the first drunk guy at a party.
Nice enough, but we'd really rather not hang around you until you sober up.

<grabs a puke bag>

....

seriously though, I never understood this American enthusiasm either. it baffles me. I don't recall any Brits wearing "I love The Met" T-shirts after the terrorist attacks or anything like that.

we do know how to throw a good riot when we don't like something though :p

I've heard people describe him as a "walking Narcissus" in that people see in him what beauty they want to. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but I certainly don't worship him or believe he is some sort of panacea.

I never understood why people got all uptight about these accusations that he would plunge us into communism/socialism, and therefore a state of utter depravity. Afterall, we do still have Congress and the checks and balances are still in place.

On the other hand, I have noticed a recent wellspring of white supremacists and renewed racism(as cowardly as they/it may be). I think it is important to keep up an air of support for a leader that is facing, and will continue to face such unprecedented adversity.

For the first time, we have a leader that is outwardly honest, real- as in, he seems like he could be a member of your family- and knows how to listen. We have two extremes right now: people who love him, and those who really don't. I suspect that it will even out.

There's no accounting for the media, personality cults, or why y'all consume our diarrhea. But that aside, you may watch our crappy movies and tv shows and follow our news, but you don't know America and I would prefer if you kept your sweeping generalizations and assumptions about what we think to yourself. Seems like everybody and their dog thinks they know exactly what's going through our minds at all times.

I know you're trying to undermine this perspective, but simply put I live in the New York City Combined Statistical Area, which has more people and a larger GDP than the entirety of Australia. While not insignificant, it is in no danger of unseating American hegemony, and couldn't pull off the things you're talking about without self ruin. The fact that you feel the need to take the time to point out what powers Australia *does* (when taken with the stuff I here from citizens of other countries) really just makes me wonder if much of the world isn't suffering from some kind of bazaar inferiority complex.

I dunno bout that. Seems the rest of the world is feeling the pinch of our housing market.

Plus as Dubya so vividly illustrated we can give the world surprise buttseks.

oh ok... i still don't get the comparison. Is Kevin Rudd the PM that was Dubya's lap dog or was it the guy before him? tony blair for example, was dubya's pet poodle and i know some australiam PM was dubya's lap dog. Which is kind of worse than being dubya's pet poodle.

why does australia still have the british flag on part of their flag?
