I know I am, for several reasons. Starting with I can't even imagine myself in a place full of people and not being THE OUTCAST.

Afraid? Not really.

Concerned that what is labeled as a "Social Meet-Up" might actually be the bait for a sales pitch or unpaid participation in someone else's research project.

I don't think I would be. Maybe a little nervous. I actually would like to join a group or attend a meet-up.

I have social phobia so I find all social occasions quite scarey, but I disapline myself and make myself go to stuff.

I really enjoyed meeting people at the few aspie things Ive gone to and Ive also met people off WP on their own. I found I felt more comfortable meeting people on their own but I still enjoyed the group meet up.

I think it is harder work in an aspie meet up if I still try to 'perform' as I do usually but if I be more myself it is less stressful.

I still ruminated for hours afterward though but it was worth it as I made an excellant friend at the last one I went to.

I tried to start 2 or 3, met 3 people that consider themselves aspie. One is diagnosed and one has a child that is diagnosed. I went to an aspie group onceMy cost so far? about $700(damaged the body of a rental, went almost 200 miles in a car, and stayed a day in a hotel), and the ones I spent the most on were ones I saw the least benefit from.

So NOPE, I'm not afraid. I'm ALSO not afraid of standing in a crowded mall, but I won't do it for the heck of it. Now if I made 100+ an hour for it, I WOULD! Likewise, I am gunshy about meetings. NOT because I am afraid of the MEETING, but that I am afraid it will be a waste of time.

I think I'm more afraid of getting lost in the underground. I hate being lost. But as long as I know exactly where I'm going and exactly what I'm doing I'm fine.
