Do you have any problems with not being heard?

I'll be in a conversation with two or more people and I'll say something. They ignore me like I'm not there. And then they get angry when I mention something later. What do I do?

So frustrating!

I just don't see the point in talking anymore. Even to my parents.

Yeah. People say I talk quiet, but I'm pretty sure they hear me, they just don't want to listen to me or something. Anyways, I don't bother talking to people anymore unless I have to.

Yeah, I get this a lot too. Though I think they hear me just fine but ignore me.

The thing I do is if someone asks me to repeat something, I repeat it at the same volume in the same tone of voice. Which doesn't solve the problem.

Yeah, this tends to happen. I've learned to take it in stride.

It's not necessarily that people are outright ignoring you (although depending on how well you know the group, and how well they know each other, that MIGHT very well be the case).

But maybe you said something that is unrelated to the main conversation, or a real "inside joke" (one that only you know). NTs don't take very kindly to that, and they'll assume that you just like hearing the sound of your own voice. Try this: When people didn't seem to pay attention to what you said, ask them their opinion about something related to the main topic at hand. If they don't respond, then you know they're ignoring you.

I hate it when I have to repeat myself but I always ask others to repeat themselves if they are talking with some other sound going on. I've learned to not get so annoyed because I do it too.

Start shouting until they respond.

This was very frustrating in the past, but I have improved quite a bit. I used to have a huge inferiority complex and I think that others picked up on it. They didn't respect me and therefore didn't really care what I had to say. It took me years to realize(and believe) that I really was equal to everybody else, and it shows through by the way others respond to me now. Now if I can just get this anxiety under control.....

All The Time.

Also, I seem to be invisible to bartenders.

I thought I was alone!

There have been times when I've said "That's exactly what I said" when someone points out something in a conversation. I hate being ignored and it's frustrating to have to repeat stuff. The accent doesn't help either

Yes! This is why I tend to hate group conversations. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Is my timing off? Am I not sticking sufficiently to the topic at hand? I just don't get it.

I feel like only half the words that come out of my mouth reach my mother's understanding. I can talk about dogs and she's replies with a five-minute ramble about race relations. I feel like she wants to talk about whatever's on HER mind before the current subject which was whatever I brought up. It's immensely frustrating.
