One of the biggest clues that I am "different" has been my life-long love of sparkly things.

Back when I was growing up, I was fascinated with those sparkly 70's bike seats, prisms, and colored christmas lights. I also liked to play tricks with colors by squinting.

One of my clearer memories from childhood is looking at traffic lights and neon signs shining through raindrops on the car windows at night.

I also love candle light, gas lights, fire in the fireplace and fireworks - but I am not a pyro! I just like to watch the dancing light.

My DREAM is to go see the aurora borealis in Yellowknife or Anchorage. I am obsessed with auroras.

When I went to Venice a few years ago, I felt as if I'd "come home" All the little stores with glass stuff, the beautiful mosaics, pink glass street lights, the church with red glass fixtures...

I move glass things around the house during the day to pick up the moving sunlight.

This is about the only space-out fascination I have and can remember having. Other than that - I am pretty normal about staring at things.

Whenever anyone makes a "ret*d" joke about "shiny objects" - I laugh on the outside, but my mind spins inside. 8O

Is this a hallmark of AS? Anyone else have love stories of shiny objects?

Absolutely love all the things you mentioned!!
I don't celebrate Christmas but I love the lights so much I had my bedroom completely outlined with them around the ceiling, windows, door, closet, ect.. everywhere! I intend to use lots of sparkly/shiney Christmasy stuff in decorating my future house because I love it ^-^
I have several fiberoptic lights, a black light, a lava lamp, a plasma ball.. anything I can get my hands on that glows, shines, or lights up!

Shiny=happy. :D

I have crystal suncatchers hanging in my windows, christmas lights in the bedroom that I use as a nightlight, fiber optic lights, lava lamps, glitter lamps (I love glitter)...I paint my nails silver in the summer and sit and watch the light reflect off of them.

I love fireworks, the noise startles me, but I have to see them every time I have a chance.

I can't walk past a table of glassware setting in the sun at a yardsale without zoning out for awhile.

I love shiny things, not chrome or metalics, but more like crystal, gems, glass, some lights, and not LEDs... Crystal, daimonds and other gems being the big ones. My grandmother has a small crystal castle that when you look at it from different angles it appears to change colour. Chrome and metalic things tend to make the shininess look in such a way that it bothers my visual sensory issues, which is why I hate cars, their pant reflects the sunlight into my eyes no matter what angle they are at to me, and it hurts. I also like fire, i am a bit of a pyro, but only because of how much I want to see the flame.

Ohh yeah! Fireworks are awesome as well! Sometimes I can see the nightly fireworks from a particular amusement park as I drive somewhere at night and I have to try real hard not to stare at them and crash into stuff lol.

I once wanted to be a pyrotechnitian to be able to make fireworks, just cuz I loved them so much. Now, it takes a lot to impress me, and noone I know has the kind of money to make a fireworks show that impresses me... Come on people, I want to see the skies set ablaze, that's what fireworks are about.

I also love ice. Ice is a beautiful thing, especially in a more crystaline form, not like ugly snowy ice that looks like someone puked on it, but beautiful ice that has a very smooth or crystaline shape to it, and has no impurities to taint its appearence, except maybe some nicely laid out air bubbles.

I have a tiny mirrorball that hangs in the sunlight that shines in my bedroom window during autumn and spring. As it swings the little reflections make it look as though the whole room is swinging.

I like all sorts of crystally things, but my no.1 favourite is those shiny nylon fabrics that change colours depending on their angle to the light. I can stare at that for ages.

I also want a the van from scooby doo, that would be sooo epic.

Also, an autistic kid's dream show:

Viva Pinata

Why? Because of all the bright vibrant colours and how they move about, I can watch that show and be mesmorized for hours, simply because it is so pretty.

That's funny how the OP described about sparkly.

My mom use to comment on how I only picked up or was into sparkly things. I can even remember in the summer when I was very little I'd sit and just be fascinated by lightening bugs while other children only wanted to catch them.

I seem to have an obsession with rocks, gemstones, paint, and etc that involves color. I always thought of it as a case of just using so much of my right brain. My granny was the same way, she loved to decorate her gardens and things with crystals, and colored glass such as the Fenton glass collection.

I still don't know what to do with half her collection she left behind..... :(

I have a beautiful peice of natural glass my step mother gave me. She said she was given it, but had no use for it, it is beautiful, and I want to have a staff made out of it, it would be a sweet staff, and look so Tolkeinish.
