I think it will help. I never knew tasting with the tip of one's tongue was an Aspie thing, but I do it all the time.

Very interesting read, Strapples! I think you did a great job.

I recognized a lot of traits of myself in some of those categories. One thing that I do that I didn't see mentioned, which I guess would be related tactile hyposensitivity (although I think generally I'm fairly tactilely hypersensitive since I'm VERY picky about food texture- much more so than taste), is that if I like a food texture, I rub it all around inside my mouth, including under my tongue. Sometimes I will also chew something into a ball, take it out of my mouth, take bites out of the chewed bolus, and then re-chew it. It may sound gross, but I enjoy it. There was something I saw on TV one time where this guy had a problem with overeating, and they were trying to turn him off his favorite foods. They had him chew a donut, take it out of his mouth, look at the chewed mess, then put it back in, etc., so that he would be disgusted by the sight and texture of half-chewed donut. I thought that was so weird, since I do that all the time and find it enjoyable!

Anyway, very interesting and informative document!

that's very interesting!

those pages with the highlight on them-- is there anyway I could obtain them without the highlight? I'm entering school again and the school wants as much information as possible to evaluate me and I think that'd be a cool thing to have.

Notice the book's citation. go to worldcat.org look up a library that has it and go grab a copy. if you want i can get them for you but it will take some time. notify of your decision

The "Hypersensitive" column all the way down pretty much describes me.

That was a fascinating list! One kid can be described as hyposensitive while the other one is hypersensitive!

Interesting! I didn't know about some of these.

I'm mostly on the Hyper side, I was surprised looking over the Vestibular column especially, I was aware of the first one, but not the other three being associated with aspergers. I have always had issues with all four.

Thanks Strapples.

Strapples, you can buy that lead-vinyl stuff in blanket sheets, too, like thirty inches wide and four feet long or so. Probably bigger. At my old work we had a pair of gloves made of that stuff, I bet you would have loved them. Much more stimmy than the ones with the ripstop nylon covering.

The really good lead aprons that wrap all around you are pretty expensive, but the front-only ones are less than $200. I wonder if you could get a really good one for next to nothing, though, because if they get creased there's this line where they won't protect you from radiation so the x-ray lab must throw them away. They'd still be fine for your purposes, though, all heavy and rubbery.

What are you trying to accomplish by it? I tried to explain to my sister why I like wetsuits--she didn't get it at all. From now on, I'll keep my sensory issues to myself or share them only with others who can understand.

Yeah, the one I want is $400+. Cha-ching! 8O

Will that be cash or charge, sir? :D

It is big enough to cover the whole bed (not just a fraction of it--grrrr), and with the same weight distribution as my current one. (Okay, so maybe I want just a wee bit more heaviness--sue me!)

I can understand your need for mass loading. But I wouldn't throw the whole gamut of your sensory issues on your 'rents at once. Maybe just say you want weight, but in a fabric that doesn't cause you distress?
