When you are playing video games, what is more important to you, a good sound system, or a hi def monitor/tv?

For me its the sound system. If I don't have 5.1 surround or better, it becomes harder to play the game, as I like hearing footsteps behind me and knowing where my enemies are without having to look. CRT tvs are just as good as 1080p LCDs to me.

What makes the biggest difference for me is the graphics card. I always buy the most expensive one in the store.

I've been playing The Witcher for a year now and I can't wait to get the Enhanced Edition. It is the COOLEST RPG I have ever played.

Graphics card needs to be good enough to support the game without slowing down, meaning that it can have all graphics set to min as long as it is smooth.

I can't stand CRT screens as many are not flat, and even the flat ones hurt my eyes, i can't look at them for long, I like LCDs better.

Now what really makes a difference is sound, never got around getting 5.1 / 7.1 system wired, but I use 5.1 headphones and it's a major difference for me.

Definitely sound. Your VGA monitor is without a doubt already way beyond 1080p, which means that HDTV (1.5 megapixel maximum) was already obsolete before it even started broadcasting.

i have a HD tv and a 5.1 surround sound system but it dusnt properly do surround sound cos it needs to go through a expensive box to become surroundy and i just dont get it

When it comes to games, i tend to prefer hearin, but sight if much better when snipin. I only ever use a sniper scope when i found where they are without using it. When playin a game, and i hear a lot of gunshots, i am often able to distunguish between friend and for by the sounds of the guns. Different guns, different sounding shots. Your team use different guns, so you can tell who's who by sound. Also, enemy cries such as "Flank 'em! open fire! fall back!" reveal enemy positions. On F.E.A.R, Radio communication and shadows are as pressured as each other, so both senses are VERY important. That said, hearing is better depending on your situation.

am do not use sound for sensory and processing reasons,so need a good tv,am heard that a lot of games for current gen consoles show up text tiny on a crt so cant be bothered with that when needing subtitles to show.

I have a really good stereo sound system, but more because of music than games...and I don't care too much about the res of the game either, I can tolerate 640x480 just fine, but I can't stand running a game on an LCD screen and not having it at native res

I kind of wish I had a way to hook up some of my newer consoles to something a bit higher res than interlaced TV, though...especially some of the games designed for HD, where the text is so tiny you can't read it at all
