Questions about numbering in the forum addresses

I was going through the addresses for the forums, since each is assigned a number after the standard "wrongplanet.net/forum". I have a pair of questions about them and was hoping some kind and knowledgeable soul could offer me some enlightenment.

The numbers that are used go from 1 to 34 (I think, because I didn't check beyond number 40). However, the numbers 5, 12, 28 and 29 are in no use and unlabelled, the numbers 31 and 9 are called "Global Moderators" and "**OLD Global Moderators OLD**" and apparently do not exist and finally, the number 26 is intriguingly called "sand" and also not in use. What's 'up' with this?

I was also wondering how the forums were given their numbers.

The moderator ones do not exist because you are not allowed to see them, in other words they are hidden. Some forum sofware is more stringent and not post title of forum you aren't allowed to view.

The numbers probably correspond to primary keys in the database table and these are rarely reset.

'sand' probably refers to sandbox. That is a place where someone trying out their forum software can mess around. Normally it is advisable to set up a test server though as a test section of your live forum is a bit limited what you can do with it.

Public services that offer an API will have whole sandbox sites so developer can create software for those sites, but don't have to do real transaction, etc. Like ebay or sandbox. 'production' is used to refer to the opposite of sandbox, in other words the real live site.
