I know I will be seen as unpopular here for raising this issue, but I have recently heard of Australian trials for transcranial magnetic stimulation - from what I have heard, it can get the social functioning parts of the brain to NT-approximate levels. I myself am going to volunteer for the trials if I can be accepted, in the interests of science. If it works, I will in theory become an NT. If it doesn't work, well, that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Yes, that makes me a heretic curebie in some of your eyes. I prefer to take a more open-minded view of the subject. If it can make me function better in this NT world, then so be it. Call me what you will, but if I am accepted for adult trials of the tech, I will be most grateful.

I do not care if it isn't politically correct. It's what I want. If this cure helps ease the journey of an already difficult life, so be it.

I think that you are very brave. But is it "safe"? I wish you the best. I'd probably do it myself but I am married with a family and we'd all have to have the treatment. If I were a single I'd give it a shot provided that there are no disadvantages. I would not want to be left incapacitated to where I'm not even a proper aspie anymore. If I couldn't be made into a NT than I just like to stay as I am. Best Wishes but be careful because as an experimental subject, one isn't always told of possible disadvantages or effects on health. Keep me posted!

Yeah it would be intresting if it worked and without any side-effects.
GL if you are chosen for the trials.

OP: I'm interested in how you heard of the trials? Are there ones happening in Sydney? Good luck to you.

Good luck with that. I'm interested to see what comes out of it.

It's something I'll be watching, but remember that nothing comes for free.

If you've never read Speed of Dark, I recommend you do so before the trials begin and then decide if you want to continue.

It won't work - it' like Electric Shock Therapy - you might as well hit yourself on the head with a hammer.

Socially correct topic

Might approximate hypnosis.

I would choose not to. Be careful about your wishes. An improvement in one area might "repel" the other Aspie parts.

Social magnetism. A human magnet. A human glue stick. Magic putty. Good luck, in all Aspie sincerity.

Hmmm sounds interesting. If thats what you want to do, then great just proceed with caution and make sure you get all the facts before submitting to treatment as there could be some nasty unwanted side effects. Good Luck tho and keep us updated on your progress.

I have read of how a man became less autistic and more social as he got older, as he did he started to lose his special abilities. Maybe it is just to much for the brain to be strong in many areas though if it where possible and i could choose to be both socially competent and a deep analytical thinker with the world still holding its depth then i would agree to that kind of treatment myself.

no, not all all- good luck! if its sucessful, id be tempted to fly over and try it out too.

but you are wrong; even if you are more nt, or even entirely nt socially, you would still have your other a.s attributes- set thinking, fear of change, getting lost in tasks, whatever it is.
how brilliant! congratulations, anyway!

vaguely similar to this;

Wow. I was looking into trying to get this for my migraines.

You mean I could risk losing my AS? That'd be terrible. I'm glad you posted!

I don't think it makes you a heretic for wanting to improve your compatibility or make life easier. If that were so, I'd be a heretic curebie, because over the years I've tried very hard to adapt to my environment and develop a more harmonious existence with NT kind.

Please let us know how it works out for you! Also any side effects would be of great interest to me.

Personally I think you'll still have much the same personality, goals, outlook etc. You just might have a reduction in the compulsions to act in a certain way or the need to "be Aspie".

Just out of curiosity, where is this trial taking place and who is doing it? I still might want to give it a go if they have room for one more. I'll most certainly not want to be cured of Asperger's, but I'd give almost anything to never have a headache again.

I'm not sure how that will work just using magnets.
