I got the paperwork for doing an assessment here in Ireland - and it runs to €700 (US$1,000) for the first consult!

Does anyone know of a cheaped route to get an assessment/diagnosis?

Ouch! I am in the US and my first visit was $200, and the actual assessment was $1,000.

No, but if I ever find one I'll be sure to let everyone on here know about it.

I checked about it a few months ago. There were only 2 doctors in my area that had much of any experience of diagnosing ASD in adults. One costs $1300, the other $1700, and that's if they felt like they could make up their mind in a few sessions. If they wanted to see you more than the usual allotted appts to gather additional info it would cost even more. Seems ridiculous to me.

I am in the States, with health insurance from my job. I interviewed with the psychologist, and took hours of diagnostic tests over three visits at a $20 co-pay each visit. The irony was all the 'autism' tests I was given there, I had already taken on the various links supplied on this forum, and my scores were the same at the diagnostic as they were online.

My focus was on my discovery about being autistic. My amazement (and chagrin) was the comorbids I accrued along the way. That made me humble.

What kind of comorbids did you have? Were they typical for ASD sufferers? I'm just curious about what to expect, or if there are other things that I'm overlooking...

Who ON EARTH did you get that from?

Go to Michael Fitzgerald at Trinity, for heaven's sake...he does NOT charge that much.

Can't you get diagnosed through a community mental health center? That's where I had my assessment & it was all for free.

Not a chance here in Ireland I am afraid. We don't even have community mental health centers, and the services we do have are useless in terms of adult autism/AS

Ouch... I always hear about people ragging on about the NHS and how rubbish it is, but it is free and not actually that bad. I was able to get my diagnosis for free, although I had to appeal once because the funding application for it was initially rejected. Trying not to go political here, but I'll say I really think health care and such should be free for people.

Hope it works out for you, anyway.
