My eye lashes are really bothering me, this happens everyonce in a while, and basicly, when it happens it feel like something is in my eyes, and I go and look and there is nothing there and the more i touch them trying to fix it the worse it gets. To make it worse, it bothers me so much that I find it really hard not to touch it, and it won't go away if I keep touching it... When I was younger I actually plucked out all my eyelashes just to stop this... And it did, for a while... I can't stand it, but I can't just rip them out and be done with it either. Anyone else get this? Not the ripping out part, but the really botheredby eyelashes part.

Yeah, I get that. I usually end up pulling out a few eyelashes, as a result. But my reasons, I think, are very dry eyes. I also get bothered by dry skin and flaking eyebrows. I have to scrub my eyelids with a weak baby shampoo solution, and then use prescription eye drops. This stops shedding eyelashes at such a high rate, and having them fall out or get tangled in the other lashes.

I don't know if this is the same thing, but my son had intermittent problems with his eyes over a period of about a year. Eventually, he was referred to the right person who worked out that sometimes his lower lid goes into a spasm, and the lashes would scratch the surface of his eye.

My son and I both have similar eyes, the opthamologist described it as anablepharis, I think. I'll need to check.

Anyway, my son had a general anasthetic and the lashes which were causing the problem were removed by electrolysis.

I'm sorry I couldn't resist; hopes this makes you laugh. Try to make it through the whole thing.

It's epi- not ana-

epiblepharon /epi·bleph·a·ron/ (ep″ĭ-blef´ah-ron) a developmental anomaly in which a horizontal fold of skin stretches across the border of the eyelid, pressing the eyelashes inward, against the eyelid.

I definitly don't ve that, as it is only rarely that my eyelashes touch my eyes, but it does happen. It bothers me when they touch each other very much so, and that is the worst.

Not to insult your masculinity Padium, but when my eyelashes bother me I use an eyelash curler to bend them up so they stay away from my eyeballs. They only cost a couple bucks, and you can find them in any drugstore, and probably in the makeup aisle of a big supermarket.

Again, no insult intended. A female relative who uses makeup probably has a lash curler and may not mind letting you try it.

I also pull at my lashes gently in groups, and the lose ones come out between my fingers before they stick to my eyes.

It's definitly not an insult to my masculity, however, I have this fear of getting things in my eyes, and I could not bring myself to use one for that reason... I have managed to pluck individual ones in a period of about 5 minutes with a pair of tweezers and being very very careful.

Sometimes this happens to me, I have unusually long eyelashes. So long in fact that if I let them grow to long I can see them out of the corners of my eyes, which drives me crazy. When Im sleeping or if is windy they can get pushed out of place so that a lash touches and irritates my eye.

I actually trim my eyelashes in order to aviod this. I close one eye and use a pair of small sciccors to trim the lashes down, just far enough that they dont interfear with my vision, but not so far as its obvious that I trim them.

Also when I'm in the shower I gently pull on my eyelashes so as to pull out any that are loose but not so hard as to pull out those that are firmly in place. This helps keep any lashes from falling out and going into my eyes and the water from the shower washes away the loose lashes as they come out.

Sometimes there are filaments of artificial fibers that bother the eyes. Because of their width these filaments are extremely hard to see. When you rub your eyes to get them out you may sometimes turn your eyelash in the wrong direction which makes it seem like it’s your eyelash that was the instigator. Have someone check your eye very carefully with a jewelers magnifier.

all reality becomes meaningless to me when i get an eyelash in my eye.
it is the worst tactile sensation i can experience. i could never touch my eye with anything to get it out as it is so severe a sensation.
no matter what is happening, i will disengage my attention to the world completely until the eye is cleared of the lash.

once at an office where i was new (9-5 job with suit and tie etc), there was a leaving party lunch for some girl. they knew i was autistic, but they invited me to the restaurant for the lunch anyway. some were worried about how i might behave (i was new and they were not familiar with me yet). the restaurant was very high class with well behaved patrons.

an important lady manager about 52 years old and dressed in a floral dress and smelling of perfume that smelled like dry macaroni asked me at the restaurant ...

lady: and what do you think of us moving our offices to the kent street building mark?

i got the eyelash in my eye at that instant. i shut both eyes very hard and put the palm of my hand over the affected eye and pressed in. i was grimmacing i think in torture. i never have sworn in work places even if others do, but my decorum was shattered by the eyelash.

me: ermmmmm......... oh sh*t! ...ahhh ahhhh ....errrr...oh f*ck! f*ck! f*ck! f*ck! f*ck! f*ck!....ohhh sh*t.....
(obviously that is not verbatim but the general flavor of my sentence)

i started patting my hand on the table with my free hand and gasping like "ahh ahhh oohh aaarrgh".
i heard someone say "oh my god! can someone do something?".
i went outside after i regained a few wits, and had the experience out there.
2 others came out to help, and they thought i was having an "autistic seizure" because i could not answer the ladies question about moving offices.
when they discovered i was reacting to an eyelash, they lightened up, but still they could not see why i was so overwhelmed by what they find to be just a minor irritation.

if i was going to do a bungee jump, and i got an eyelash in my eye just after stepping off the bridge, i would retain no memory of the jump, but have vivid memories of the eyelash.
