Some of my toes are slightly bent. This is because when I was younger I used to hate wearing socks because sometimes there would be wrinkles and feeling them there would drive me mad. My parents literally had to force my shoes and socks on some mornings. Eventually my solution was to pull my socks so tight that there was no chance of any wrinkling. Unfortunately spending all day with my toes squashed up lead to them growing bent. Things improved when I got older and they straightened out somewhat, but the effect is still just about noticable.

Perhaps this is why I have always ideally preferred bare feet to any kind of footwear. I only wear shoes when I have to, which is usually every time I leave the house since this is what society expects and I'm afraid of being judged and stared at by strangers. But I hate it. Are there any advocacy groups for bare feet? Are there any barefoot conventions or meetings? Am I the only person who has a problem with this?

You wouldn't spend every waking minute of every day wearing gloves.

I can have problems with the seams in socks rubbing and I also dislike wrinkles. I have managed to find some more comfortable pairs that I am ok with. As for shoes, I only ever wear them when I am out and walk around bare foot the rest of the time. I don't go out much so I only wear shoes a few times a week or so if I have an appointment or need to run up the shop.

I hate wearing shoes too. It's probably the same sort of issue. There are only certain ones I can bear to wear, and even then I find myself taking them off if I'm sitting somewhere for a while. At home I'm always barefoot if it's warm enough; if not, I wear loose fuzzy socks.

I remember someone on another site mentioning something about belonging to a barefoot group, but I don't know anything about what she was talking about.

LOVE being barefoot! I seldom wear shoes when I'm at home (well, I seldom wear anything at home, but that's another thread! ).

Tip for those who like going barefoot: never get a professional pedicure! A couple of years ago, my BF and I went on a long weekend to the beach. I was able to walk around the beach with no discomfort when I stepped on a random shell or whatever. A couple of weeks after we got back, he suggested I get a pedi/mani. I figured, hey, a bit of pampering might be nice, so I went. The first thing they do for a pedicure is to use a pumice stone to remove all the callouses on the bottom of your feet! 8O I did NOT enjoy this, and I'm still rebuilding them two years later. :(

I've always loathed wearing both socks and shoes, as a child I would only wear socks inside out (and still do). I now wear 80% angora socks (inside out) with Fitflop boots or shoes when I need to wear something that will protect my feet from the cold or when I'm walking long distances, and Fitflop sandals (no socks!) at all other times. At least I knew to be patient and tolerant with my son when he showed a similar extreme reaction to any form of footwear.

I don't like wearing socks for various reasons, so I don't like wearing shoes that you have to wear socks with. I don't mind sports sandals and I LOVE wearing Crocs. I wear those all the time. I do prefer going barefoot, but sometimes I just can't. I don't like going barefoot someplace where the floor is dirty, but I'll go barefoot in the dirt. :?

I think Crocs are the ideal shoe because you can wear them with or without socks and there's no risk of getting the shoes funky from a fungus (they have that anti-fungal thing in them). They have so many different styles that I have some specifically for snow/winter use and some for hot weather use. I would think Crocs would be the perfect shoes for Aspies.

i hate wearing shoes. that is why i walk carefully. my shoes last a very long time because i walk in a balanced way. i see people who wear their shoes out, and i can see by their gait why they do.

I don't care for shoes either. My solution to that dislike is to wear sandals as often as possible; as soon as it is warm enough in the spring, out come the sandals and away go the sneakers. :)

I hate wearing shoes, and only wear them when it is absolutely necessary. I usually wear slippers when I go out.

Shoes just are so constricting, and make my feet feel so hot. I don't know how other people can stand wearing them.

I like going barefoot so I can feel the ground on the soles of my feet.

Same here ... but then that can also depend upon what that ground actually feels like!

Welcome to WP.
==============

I go barefoot as much as I possible can, but I do wear at least socks much of the time because my feet get cold a lot ... and then I definitely also "have fits" whenever I do have to wear shoes and my socks just will not remain "tight and right"!

I also do not like shoes. I find them very annoying and confining and only wear them when it is a necessity.

On the subject of clothing, I go shirtless half the time too. 8)

No, I'm actually a little obsessive about hygiene, I never step barefoot (or even with socks on) on the ground.
[rant]But I hate buying shoes: why do they cost so much if they're only something you step on? Also, those goddamned manufacturers insist on putting their brand names into every part of the shoe; it's annoying as hell.[/rant]

I'm not, but I do hate when things stick to my feet. It's the only reason I manage to sweep the floors.
