Almost every commercial advertises its product with some over-sexualized huge-breasted woman wearing scant clothing or oiled muscle-bound shirtless men. Practically every popular song today has to do with either a) getting laid, b) breaking up, or c) being in a relationship. You cannot watch a single movie over a PG13 rating that doesn't have at least two sex scenes. Twelve year old girls nowadays are worried about looking "sexy" or getting a boyfriend. Women are told from the start that they can get success in life from promoting themselves sexually and "seducing" men. If you tell someone that you are asexual, people look at you like you just said you like to eat live penguins. And god forbid if a woman isn't pregnant before she is thirty. Why does everything always have to revolve around sex, relationships, and reproduction? What about things like success, discovering new things, intelligence, and living a productive, prosperous life?

To me, while there's something to be said for all those things you listed at the end of your post, there's only so much happiness one can derive from them. Even as an Aspie, the best times and fondest memories I have are derived from human relationships, not necessarily from successes in other areas. I do agree, though, that making your life entirely about those human relationships is a dangerous thing too, as is making your life entirely about success and prosperity...

all those things you mentioned are part of the "media". Its not suprising because sex sells and nearly everything in this world revolves around money.

As far as commercials go, I would say the vast majority of people don't really want the facts about what they may or may not buy, they want some emotional connection to it. It's probably called "Aspirational marketing" or something. If the unwashed and ugly populace perceive something as being an object that the "beautiful people" would own, they want to own it too.

Ah but is the fault in the media for using sex to sell or is it on the people to whom this method works?

Its just easy for the media to manipulate natural primal urges such as sex to make money I know its messed up but major corporations only care about ratings and making money.

Well basically because reproduction (together with eating) is the most elementary drive of all organisms without which life could not exist (even viruses reproduce and they do not even eat, at least not in the traditional sense)

It doesn't "have to." You're 14. It's what you notice. Yeah, I know, it's there everywhere, but you can learn not to focus on it so much. It ain't easy at your age though!

That was really very funny!

As for the rest it's kind of like Pavlov's Dog. Manipulation/Exploitation of human (animal) behaviors.

Many years ago (I was in my mid 20s) there was a feature film of "the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". An acquaintance of mine who was in his teens insisted that "Dude! Teenaged mutant ninja turtles rule the planet, man!"

This seemed a bit odd to me as a) they were fictional characters b) the characters had little influence on my life or the life of anyone else I knew c) I've never really believed in world government conspiracy theories.

My point is that if it's something that is at the forefront of your mind, you are going to see it everywhere you look, maybe so much so that even when you don't see it, you assume it's there. You are going to assume it has an importance far beyond what it really has.

There is nothing wrong with sex. Most people think of sex from time to time. They might fantasize about it or find amusement in the complications it adds to life. While not for everyone, it is something most people want. Because it is something that is a nearly universal human desire, it can often make people sit up an take notice. This is an especially useful thing in advertising.

But I don't think sex is being used anywhere near as much as you believe. Maybe it's because the sorts of films and television you are watching are the sort of thing that uses sex more often. I see a lot of advertising that uses other attention getting devices such as whimsey or surprise.

Anyway, it's nothing to get too obsessed about.

I don't know.

I read that people are said to think about sex so many times a minute, every waking minute.

I see women trying to be unnecessarily girly to the point of being useless, all having the same haircut practically.

I see the guys acting like if they don't try to dominate everybody they are going to wake up GBT the next morning automatically. (that's why as a kid, the aspie who is not trying to dominate is the one who becomes the walking target).

And I wonder how people can live like this, with a primal thing being part of the personality of such a complex creature. I see a lot of insanity and un-health arise from it. I see this ball and chain on their legs and they don't notice it.

Kind of a sad existence. I always had better things to do than constantly "looking to get laid". All around me everybody looking to get laid all the time, very grating on my nerves. Such a gift of an advanced mind we have....

Look at the internet. Greatest communications medium in all history. It can connect person to person across the planet, breaking down the barriers of propaganda, superstition, and governments, breaking down cultural barriers and giving one individual all the power of every other one to be open and speak openly. You can't be told anything about anybody and end up believing it unless you wanted to.

And what do people do with it? They look at porn, shopping, gossip, and sports scores.

People are horny, sex sells and so does some shock value too. Of times shock value is done using sex. See historically, sex was taboo. Over the last few decades, society becomes more liberal and sexual exposure slowly increases and increases for a sense of interest and mild shock value. Not saying its a bad thing. I dont mind it.

It looks and acts shallow to me.

People in life don't want a purpose, they just want to breed so that the next generation thinks the same.

What ever happened to having an adventure in life or trying to stand out from the rest?

I am so glad I am so detatched with this obsession of sex or breeding mentality.
