Forum: Random Discussion   Topic: Does anyone have flappy feet?

I definitely flap my hands sometimes, but I've found it's much more common for me to move and flap my feet. I'll find myself twitching them for minutes or hours at a time without even noticing, or flapping them up and down when I'm excited or anxious.

I would argue that JavaScript represents the most extreme example of this tendency - why write a function to determine whether a number is odd when you can just download and import an entire package https://www.npmjs.com/package/is-odd to do it for you? There's two separate threads of thought I thin...

Extremely. I now use it as my primary source of information, and use Google as a fallback. I'm a paid subscriber, and only use GPT-4 (I've found GPT-3 - the version available to the public - to be on average less helpful than Google). As a software engineer, I have it write most of my code, and it's...

This is me too :p Only solution I have found is to build an environment where I'm in a better emotional state. And rid the house of anything tastier than a watermelon.

I always thought the idea of playing dress-up just to exercise was idiotic. I also always thought the idea of paying money to play dress-up and spend the time and effort to go to a place specifically designated to exercise was idiotic. So I walk a lot, wherever I happen to be. Works great, and costs...

No.

Some women I have spoken to actually feel uncomfortable around more muscular guys and actually find it threatening.

I didn't have what I would really call a "friend" until I was 23. We were introduced purely by chance. Sadly, this friendship was short-lived, as we met near the end of a life phase and both left the area for different reasons. By "friend" I mean someone who: (1) Made me feel see...

I used to feel this way, too! I always felt like there must have been something that I was missing, so I went to a few parties (and hosted a few of my own). However, I've found a couple different things. (1) When the group size gets above ~5, I stop having fun. The atmosphere switches from intimate ...

Thought I would post about an experience I had recently that changed my view of how friendships can work between autistics and NTs. I was having a conversation in a small group, and the topic of disability and autism came up. Feeling comfortable in this group, I disclosed that I was autistic, and we...

Definitely - I've used shyness, both deliberately and automatically out of fear. I often found it to be a safer strategy than trying to communicate and being ostracized. Now I try to avoid the kinds of people that put me in situations where this is required, and find myself generally being much less...

Yes! All the time. Usually it's because I'm lost in thought. If so, do you know what is happening to you in those moments? Yes, I'm almost always distracted by some inner thought. How does it make you feel? It used to make me feel ashamed. "Pay attention! Why didn't you say hi to me when I wave...

Very common! I believe when I was assessed I was in the 96th percentile of people for anxiety. Some of my autistic relatives are anxious too.

Hey! You're not alone, I have anxiety too :) My first panic attack was in my early twenties, and I've had them every few months since - usually around some perceived terrible health condition. Out of breath when sitting down? It's probably a heart attack. Having difficulty concentrating? Must be a s...

This happens to me whenever I take my anxiety medication. It interferes so much with work and makes it so difficult to focus that I don't take it during the week anymore.

Both myself and my sister have PTSD (her diagnosed, myself not) from experiences in our childhood. For me, this wasn't a significant problem until I was in very similar circumstances with different people but similar dynamics about a decade later, and I just completely fell apart.

I also had a really hard time being unemployed. The lack of daily structure, a place to go for most of the day outside my home, and aimlessness were all really difficult for me to deal with. I was getting increasingly miserable as time went on, and felt like I was just throwing my resume into the vo...
