The thing is, when so much of the literature on Autism is centered around kids it helps propagate the notion that this is child-centric issue. Which disenfranchises adult suffers the attention they deserve.

This is what really gets to me about living in a world full of "normal" people. Apparently committing any of these body language mistakes, which may be a simple as holding one's frame at a slightly diagonal angle, is commonly regarded as a cardinal sin because the "normals" are m...

Three words...."Embrace the suck." I'm 46....discovered about AS at 40. Answered a lot of questions. I guess the "acceptance" part was already there. I knew I was different, just didn't understand how or why. I had a lot of anger over the fact that it happened to me or tha...

Zombiebride, so what is your conclusion? I thought about it and read everyone's comments and now I think they may want me to expand my horizons and get different or better interests. They want me to have the ability to leave my comfort zone, which honestly I can't do, the reason why I have a specia...

Best guess, they sense the downside of uncontrolled special interests. I think it could be quite hard for an Aspie to notice much of a problem until they grow older and have the responsibility of supporting themselves and playing their part in any friendships and relationships they decide to acquir...

I often talk too loud when I'm feeling happy and outgoing, and too quietly when I'm feeling introverted and down, which unfortunately is most of the time.

Long ago I buried my resentment that it is society and not I which determines how loudly I must carry my voice, but it won't stay dead.

I think this is something every human being can potentially experience, but it probably takes a lot more to overwhelm someone who doesn't have Autism and leave them in a temporarily stupefied state. For myself, I can often be garrulous in conversation -great way to camouflage yourself- but to me the...

I have a long history of being utterly obsessed with whatever hobby fascinates me, but the moment the thrill of exploring a hobby wanes I lose interest completely. Occasionally I'll return to an old hobby after a long absence and there is the joy of rediscovery but the feeling rarely lasts. I've rea...

I know I have more than most people. A roof, food, a bed, cable and a dog. I've never felt in place. Today isn't just bad, it's one of those very special Asperger meltdown/panic/supra-depression/PTSD/self hate wish I'd never been born or known of existence at all days. The only thing keeping me ali...

Browsing my local library all the books on Autism I could find relate to children with the condition, mostly advice on how parents can diagnose their kids and support them post diagnosis, and browsing the Internet the majority of the material I've discovered also seems to be fairly similar. Why? I d...

Hi. I'm not sure of the proper format with which to explain myself or my situation so instead I'll gush and hope for the best. I'm an older guy (by internet standards at least) who turns 40 this year and have only recently formally self-diagnosed myself with Autism despite knowing I was Autistic for...
