I think the idea of introducing it slowly is a good one, I will test it and see if it helps me desensitise to it. I’ve never had problems with holes in my teeth but my gums are very sensitive and unfortunately gum disease is a genetic thing in my family - my grandmother lost all her teeth in her for...

I am notoriously bad at remembering to reciprocate the question and don't really like answering 'fine' when I'm really not. It's usually after a few minutes that I remember that I'm also supposed to ask them how they are and by that time it's too late and they're probably already grumpy about it.

My dentist keeps recommending I use an electric toothbrush so I bought one and tried it but I can't stand the sensations, it sets off my sensory processing disorder really badly. Does anyone have any recommendations for one that's autism/SPD friendly? Or should I just stick to a regular toothbrush a...

The only way I can explain anxiety is that it feels like my body starts buzzing with electricity, first in my chest area and then it spreads out over the rest of my body to the point of feeling sick and hard to breathe. I often get an urge to want to run as it feels like that would help but it doesn...

The more I read the more that it sounds like your partial shutdowns/shutdowns have to do with anxiety and that they are increasing because you have a subconscious fear of them occurring. You get anxiety about having anxiety. It's a vicious circle. I bet they happen most often when you have lots of t...

I can’t stand the taste of alcohol plus I don’t like the feeling of losing control and I have never been one to conform to peer pressure so I just don’t drink it.

I get told I have an overly expressive face quite often but the problem is it shows the wrong expressions. People think I’m angry when I’m just thinking or uninterested when I’m actually enjoying something. But the opposite is also true that people can’t tell when I’m actually upset.

I got 145 (33/38) so I guess pattern recognition is a strong point of mine.

I'm the only one who's got it confirmed but I'm pretty sure that my mum, my maternal grandma, my sister and my nephew would all get a diagnosis if they sought one. My mum and grandma take routines to the extreme and neither are good at being social, my sister used to have major meltdowns when younge...

It depends if you are happy with a self diagnosis or if your mind won't rest until you know for sure. I'm also 35 and felt after years of wondering like I needed to know so decided to find out. I also did the assessment not in my native language but I'm pretty fluent so it was not a problem. And I d...

Sounds like a hypnic jerk. I get them quite often but for me I suddenly feel like I fall down a hole and my whole body jumps. I think they’re pretty common.

I just got my diagnosis but the whole wait between the assessment and feedback report I was doubting myself and certain I was making it up. I was also like you in that a psychologist suggested I might have asd after just 2 meetings although it was a suspicion of mine for about 10 years. My assessmen...

...and I got a Autism level 1 diagnosis. It's weird because I have absolutely no feelings about it right now but maybe it will come later. I was worried about the interview the psychologist did with my mum and he said that although she didn't give a clear picture that I had it as a child some parent...

I never really realised I had a problem with this but now when I think of it I tend to get panic feelings in certain situations when this is happening. Mostly when I don't know if someone is being sarcastic or is actually angry and I have a super hard time when someone makes a general statement that...

Lots of people on this site have been diagnosed with autism and PTSD. I was actually diagnosed with PTSD first (a few years before my autism assessment) which the psychologist addressed in my report. I’ll get my report and maybe type what she said in that portion of it. Okay. She said that a diagno...

I really hope you’re right. I just feel that it’s basically my word against my mum’s because I basically just had to fill out a couple of questionnaires and the psychologist did an interview. I just have to hope that my experience weigh stronger than her opinions in this case. They aren’t looking t...
