I agree that masking is neccessary is some situations and I'm trying to find the right balance. My partner, I suspect has ADHD and aspergers. When he talks about it, he is blunt about it and goes into no details. The thing is, he can be very talkative (in particular with his special interests) to th...

Hi everyone, I recently discovered that I'm on the spectrum (awaiting assessment but I'm 99.9% sure). I've spoken to my partner about this and he believes I am, and that he is something also in his own words (aspergers or ADHD were what he mentioned). We finally understand a lot more about each othe...

I find following verbal directions hard but visual cues I'm better with. I can usually find my way to a place if I've been before, from memory. I have a back up map/sat nav to ease my anxiety, especially when driving somewhere. Multitasking is not easy.

I can cook but I'm very methodical and take my time. I enjoy food and other sensory things too (music, the outdoors).

I got balayage style hair, just a messier version of an ombre. I only have to get it coloured once or twice a year and it blends with my greys (waiting for my hair to go full grey to go all natural and have done with expensive colouring). It does my head in paying £20 for a dry trim.

I find hair removal a real chore, so don't do it that often. Though conversely I don't feel 'clean' if I'm hairy. It's like I haven't washed. I can alo be a hair/skin picker and have gone through phases where I will literally pluck every hair from my calves with tweezers. If I start I can't stop.

I have to wash my hair every two-three days as it makes my scalp itchy and irritated. I have long hair, which I like the look of but it's a pain practicality wise. If its raining or windy out, my hair is annoying. Most of the time I leave it to dry and brushing it is my equivalent of styling. Dry sh...

1. Masking abilities seem correlated with gender but not completely bound to it - individuals can always be very different from the median characteristics; 2. It applies rather to young females - children and adolescents. In adult life, the masking females often burn out and show either more obviou...

Conversations are generally tiring, unless its about something I have an interest in. Cats, space, science etc. But even then, only for so long. Small talk, I just go throught the routine every day. Feel like a broken record. Can't be arsed with it though. I work in an open office so I need a couple...

I find I use the same phrases in response to conversations, or copy a phrase someone out of a film or someone I know that uses often. I also speak like a child or in silly voices sometimes too. When it comes to describing something complicated or my own thoughts and emotions, it gets tough and I don...

Thanks everyone for the useful comments. I'm going to condense into bullet points under headings as suggested and take a few test results in. I score within the range for ASD and I'll do my best to not overwhelm the GP!

Thank you Kraftiekortie for the very concise reply. Concise is the way forward.

I'm aware there will be a long wait but just making that step is a step in the right direction for me.

Hi there, I've just finished a 6 month batch of counselling through the charity Mind, the main reason I had the counselling was because I felt I had no identity and didn't know who I was. This was getting me down and for as far back I can remember, I've had anxiety, especially socially. I'd had prev...

I’ve been retaking many MBTI tests online, various different ones and I’m testing as INTJ instead of INFJ. Reason I bring this up is because of how much has changed about my sense of identity over the past couple of months. I discovered that I’d been masking for decades and hadn’t a clue of who I re...

I need alone time every single day, couple of hours at least ideally. Except my cat, he doesn’t count. :D

I work in an open plan office so I have to deal with other people most of the day. Need to recharge my batteries after peopling.
