I recommend skipping the therapist and going to the library to read some books written by highly rated expert therapists. You get above average therapists, can go at your own pace, no one needs to guess or make assumptions about your triggers, and you can use what helps you and ignore what doesn't....

I recently tried therapy again and it did not go over well. This was the first time I had tried it after receiving an AS diagnosis and just a couple sessions made me remember exactly why it never went well in the past. I need therapy to address substance use, trauma, depression, etc. not AS, and peo...

Absolutely I think we do. I honestly can't speak for everyone and I also am not sure exactly how it's different because I've never experienced emotions as an NT. I know for certain that what I experience and how is not at all the same in comparison to the people around me. Like how the rest of my se...

Right now, ASD is a set of behavioral criteria, not causes. This is part of it exactly. An internal experience is what we are trying to diagnose and we are doing it based solely on observable behaviors. This is generally a good direction to take in science but it's obviously not great either for th...

There’s a bit of a contradiction It never specificities what is meant by “speech delay”? at age 2 or 3 for example:- 1.A normal conversation just like NTs (invisible disability) 2.Just saying a few words but filled with echolallia and other random useless speech that kids on the autism spectrum say...

I think you're forgetting that trauma affects the brain in a way that makes those thought patterns and reactions impossible. Like literally physically not possible. Especially when it's emotional abuse taking place over a long span of time. Just as you are defending the therapist and saying Aspie 1 ...

So there seems to be two sets of discussions here. "I don't want to be lumped with LFAs because I can function close to normal". Therefore if I am different then there must be a biological reason for why I am different to LFA's and HFAs. I want to be perfectly clear: My objection to combi...

I could get into all sorts of things trying to detail how I can't relate to people with HFA and they can't understand things about Aspergers but I'm hesitant to try because often I think people get stuck on people with Aspergers thinking they're superior to people with HFA. I saw quite a lot of int...

Also the original diagnostic criteria for aspergers was never really followed by clinicians because they all knew it was bullsh*t. That said they had a sort of unspoken criteria because they knew there was a difference they just couldn't define it well. The original study that gave way to Aspergers ...

I think that CBT for depression and anxiety is successful not because it's changing what you feel, but just how you deal with and act upon those feelings. It can be helpful especially when there is no rational reason to be feeling depressed and anxious (i.e. mental illness), but trauma is different....

I am in agreement with The DSM's merging of the diagnoses. The key point I see is that it's a spectrum. Those called HFA likely just internalize the affects more, but that does not mean they struggle less. I can often relate just as easily to someone who is "lower functioning" than myself...

Hi! I too, fit the description that you gave yourself. In fact, many times I find myself questioning my diagnosis because of who I am outside of it and the way I've adapted to it. I am nineteen. I work full time as a bartender/barista. I'm constantly gaging people's needs and interacting with custom...

My sleep cycle is absolutely terrible and the most disabling part of having Aspergers for me. I experience both insomnia and hypersomnia, essentially both not being able to fall asleep or wake up once I do. I've studied it extensively due to this and have come up with a few things. The trouble our b...

There's been a couple of discussions on this before but nothing recent. Logistics aside, i.e. that of official diagnostic term and the benefits of receiving an ASD diagnosis, where do people with Aspergers stand on how Aspergers was eliminated from the DSM? I personally as someone with Aspergers am ...
