Prohibition doesn't make people stop drinking, it just turns alcohol into a "street drug".

It's basically like giving a huge subsidy to organized crime.

Like Al Capone back in the day.

That could be a problem; I wonder how many of them would seek non-CoC affiliated counselling if need be. I dont know....My dad told me to ask the pastor about marriage and he does premarital counseling but as as far I know he did not have the background for it......I refuse to use someone for pre-m...

However sadly there are some in the church of Christ who are hardliners who believe all divorce is sin..... I'd hope that view at least provides some pressure towards trying to make those relationships as healthy as possible. The bad thing is that most reverends in the churches of Christ who do mar...

Oh okay....I think maybe the biggest factor in the church of Christ regarding divorce is that its considered a sin in most cases in the church of Christ so many women may choose not to divorce for that reason. That makes sense, and also provides a good example of how social pressures can make for a...

So they have dry areas in Canada or your country? I thought it was a Texan/Southern/Midwestern thing. Ontario tried prohibition, but it ended in 1927. That's also when the LCBO (the province's liquor stores) were first established. There's a few dry areas in Canada still; a handful of communities i...

Getting married early is the key to getting divorced early. http://www.narusaku.com/public/style_emoticons/default/indubitably.gif Luckily there is a lower than average divorce rate in the church of Christ.... I think that's only a lucky thing if rates of domestic abuse are lower too. There's a lot...

They changed their mind once they realized how important alcohol was for social control, as well as being a big source of revenue. In the end, they reinstated the state's alcohol monopoly and sold vo...

I would of still gotten married at 18 even if I did not want kids if I found the right church of Christ woman and I could of been a roughneck in the oilfield working on oil rigs.

I wanted to get married right out of high school or right out of college or in college because as a member of the church of Christ we are required to be married first. That didnt pan out for me because I did not go to a church of Christ university so I missed my chance. When I was in my 20's marria...
