I hadn't thought of that, Makayla. For me internet writing of any sort seems to not count and so when I can't sit down and work on my novel I have no problem posting foolishness on Facebook (though forums like this one intimidate me.) But I guess any writing you manage to do helps you better than no...

I'm doing a little research on the topic of fiction writers with autism or AS (or the other difference/disorder of their choice) and, since I have Asperger Syndrome myself (and writer's block) this might be a way to make contact. In my own case I almost feel like I was born with writer's block, I ha...

I'm currently on SSI but only getting $146 a month since they deduct for a lot (like monthly checks from my mom I'm no longer getting). I'm applying for Social Security Disability as the adult child of a worker, since I have never really been able to work (I worked very briefly as a teacher many yea...

Neither of the docs who diagnosed me used any objective tests. The first talked with me once a month for about a year, he did most of the talking (he met Ed Gein once). He did also talk to my mom about her depression so I guess he heard from her. Eventually he read out the official DSM-IV thing abou...

i am curious as to why you only receive $146 from ssi? the standard payment is $674 and you should be receiving that if you have no other source of income. you also should be eligible for food assistance, home heating credit, home weatherization, and homestead tax credit.. They deduct for $300 a mo...

Video games and anime. What more do you need? Chocolate, of course. And a cat. I could suggest a lot of other special interests you might pursue (Doctor Who, or compulsively watching Korean dramas), but really I think you should look inside yourself and ask why you are feeling the need to add someth...

SSDI requires you to have worked. You may have been denied because you didn't work long enough, in which case SSI would be your fall-back option. But like everybody says, if you can get a job and keep it, get one. It's a lot better than SSI in every way. Oh, one more thing--Check your library. Ther...

I brought the book 'all cats have asperger's syndrome' to my therapy session and he had me go through the book page by page, telling whether and how what it said applied to me. (He liked that book so much he kept it for a couple of months to use with other patients.) Some therapists are very slow in...

I sure hope Social Security isn't your sole source of income. Get a loan, get a job, and pay your debts. People don't pay taxes just so others can leech off the government. Get a LOAN? How does going into debt help? And, if you had read my post you might have noticed that I have a disability which ...

I try to confine my special interests in people to fictional characters. It can be very easy to do things another person might consider intrusive, so do try to tone things down and spend loads of time with other interests that do not involve real-world people who might take your interest the wrong w...

The terms 'ret*d' and 'spaz' are no more socially acceptable than to use words like 'n****r' and 'k*e'. I think it would help you a lot to adjust your terminology so people will answer your question without spending their time freaking out over your bad language. Autism encompasses a spectrum of dis...

I need to get on Social Security Disability as the adult child of a worker. I'm already on SSI but am only getting $146 a month and am going to lose my home if I don't get more, and on this program my family members are restricted from helping me financially and I can't inherit. I applied, was turne...

My new therapist seems to think that aspies are unable to have jobs, they should all apply for government disability benefits, that I shouldn't even dream of looking for work right now.... But if I'm on disability I'd have to sell my home, get rid of my cats, and live in some crappy low-income apart...

The purpose of going to church relates to our relationship with Jesus Christ. The church is the one organization full of sinners and hypocrites that is honest enough to admit it is full of sinners and hypocrites. God is the God of small things, like the weather. When Christians pray about the small ...

Although his sci-fi and fantasy isn't "Christian", specifically, Orson Scott Card is a devout Mormon and you can often find those themes in his books. OSC is one of my favorite writers. I've noticed that his Homecoming Harmony series has some parallels with the book of Nephi (part of the Book of Mo...
