Tracytoon, very well said. They also thought my son was pokey in school. PE was the worst. He could not jump rope or throw and catch a ball well. The jock teacher had no sympathy for him and punished him often with push-ups that he could barely do. I found much of this out later along with bullying ...

I am a self diagnosed AS mom of 3. I have never liked children before mine were born. It took me 6 wks to really love my firstborn. In the hospital, when referring to my newborn son, I called him "it" and my mother was horrified. I was a dutiful, attentive mom but the emotions took awhile. With the ...

I do love this thread. We do focus on their struggles and it is so inspiring to celebrate their victories, no matter how small the world considers them. My 11 yr. son has many talents. He is excellent at archery, fishing, geography, history and drawing. He understands all of the science behind the w...

I am sad to hear about the self-esteem issues but glad to know that I am not alone. My son is 11 and tried karate when he was 6. He was the only one in that class and the instructor was too intense for him. He had not been diagnosed yet. He quit after 3 lessons. His muscle coordination and strength ...

Congratulations mollyandbobsmom! You will be amazed at how much closer you are with your children, spending the eight hours a day together when they would be at school learning God knows what. I saw an instant improvement in my AS son's maturity level without the pressure of public school. I believe...

I am an undiagnosed AS 42 yr. old homeschooling mom. I have an 11 yr. AS son, 8 yr. & 22 mo. NT daughters. I basically have two spurts of catching up. We sleep late (8 am) and I clean house for an hour while the baby has a sippy cup. Then I cook breakfast. My other spurt is about an hour before ...

I realize that everyone does not have my view of God but they should! Seriously, I feel that God can use bad for good and turn any situation around, including an unwanted pregnancy. Also, these bad things would not happen if the Ten Commandments (Thou shall not commit adultery!) were followed ...

I was molested as a child by a family member. I always thought it was holding me back sexually but now I believe it is my AS. I didn't discover until my son was diagnosed (I was 37). I went thru the motions of the teenage scene but was very disappointed and hurt emotionally. I was attracted to boys ...

I am pro-life, anti-abortionist under any circumstances. I totally agree with all of shopaholics posts. I am surprised at no mention of God and the Bible. I know that I am in a great minority here and cannot answer some questions like the soul created at conception and then dividing into twins later...

I don't remember chewing on my hair but I remember it was salty tasting, so I must have. I had long curly hair and would twirl it in ringlets. I also had a flat spot on the back of my head where I would fiddle with the root of my part when I was 12 or so. My mother told me it made me look ret*d and ...

While I am so sorry to hear about these problems, I feel so validated to know others face the same. I started homeschooling 3 yrs ago when my AS son was 7. He had the bedwetting and was impossible to get going in the morning. The harder I pushed the more defiant he became. I was no help because I be...

My AS son is 11 now and we've just recently become regulated. He's my first child and I made a lot of mistakes potty training him. He was not diagnosed with AS until 7. Looking back, I realize he had sensory issues balancing on the potty, smell issues & wiping issues (afraid of soiling his hands...

I have homeschooled my 11 yr. old AS son for 3 yrs now, along with his typical sister of 8. He was in public school until 2nd grade and each year became worse. He gravitated towards the worst behaved kids in the class because they were the only ones that would accept him. He was in detention many ti...

I am 42 yr. old mom with 11 yr. son with AS and two typical daughters, 8 & almost 2. I know I have AS since my son was diagnosed 4 yrs ago and I studied symptoms. It is great to figure out why I thought I was on the wrong planet and everybody seemed to have a secret on conduct and forgot to tell...
