According to his profile page, he has AS, so I would not take it as an insult so much as general curiosity.

And welcome to an ongoing differance between those who are seeking their own type, and those who would lump us with the entire funny farm. AS, HFA, is a world apart. My understanding is that the diversity that exists in the autism community is simply due to who we are, and that attempts to split us...

Me and this one guy have this aspie gaydar kind of thing where neither of us have admitted to having AS or talk about it, but we both know that it's true. This is a great aid to me when I'm looking for interesting people to be friends with.

Bookmarklets are bookmark links that will do something useful when you click them. You can make them run just by copying and pasting them into your address bar, but they'll be most useful if you add them as links. Goes to the next page of the topic javascript:a=document.getElementsByTagName('a');for...

Separate but equal just doesn't work. Period. To respond, I will put your statement in the context of U.S. history. Segregation was an unjustified kind of separation that was almost unanimously unasked for by the discriminees. And why would they? There is no reason that African Americans population...

... it is time we stopped letting the future of our kind be compromised by regular human 'understanding' and began to develop systems and societal structure for our own furthering and future. We CAN'T always be 'gray' for 'them' at some point we will have to develop systems that will allow us to th...

If I were in your shoes, I would start by finding famous people with Asperger syndrome. Though most lists of this on the Internet should be taken with a grain of salt, they should be fine for your purposes. Find people among them that your brother either relates to or admires, then mention them to h...

It looks like you are thinking of "Asperger syndrome" as an umbrella term that you could fit under. The truth is that you could be any one of a number of things. From what you've said, you could easily be schizotypal, PDD-NOS, an emo kid, NVLD, HFA, or AS. Also, YSK that "antisocial" and "asocial" a...

The trick is to just be honest with yourself and with others about emotions. Would you mind elaborating on this idea? I think that I agree with you halfway; trouble has never come from me being honest with myself. But my experience, any attempts to communicate honestly with NTs result in 1) them ly...

I can see how AS can be difficult to come to terms with. Self-diagnoses (which the Internet have generally laughed at) have increased in number at a time when funding for Asperger-related studies has really started to open up. Self-diagnosers allegedly need an excuse for their hardships, and researc...

I think that all of the responses and the eHow page are interesting because they all draw subjective conclusions about flat affect. I am convinced that it is just as much of an umbrella term as the word "autism" as a description is. It might do to think more broadly about the subject if you lack exp...

Two things come to mind that may be affected by going with/without diagnosis:

1) Insurance costs

2) Benefits
