Yelling at me doesn't help, it just makes me worse. I'm just so damn tired and wish I could get through a simple thing such as a bank holiday without being in a mess and pissing everyone off. What would you like to be doing? And, amongst the things that you enjoy doing, is there anything that can b...

Is the Metoprolol (a beta-blocker) for anxiety? And if so, is it a diagnosed anxiety disorder, like social anxiety or GAD?

So again, I would ask the more specific question, "has anybody who has avoidance/social issues like myself, and others who have written on this tread, ever underwent therapy which succeed in their issues subsiding or at the very least being reduced to some extent?" I feel that therapy for anxiety a...

All right. I feel something is wrong, as with only 9% of the spectrum most books, the media, the internet, this very forum, along with many other resources focus only on Asperger's (or autism). I was (and still am) so obsessed with all this and my feeling of being left out with an unknown diagnosis...

Why didn't you include a "none" option? Yes, I could have done, but I was interested in the variety and distribution of drugs that people are using for non-core symptoms. I think most people not using prescription drugs would ignore the poll. The variations in managing anxiety and panic are very in...

I had some really horrible experiences with CBT and psychotherapy before I was diagnosed - they really emphasised all my "negative thinking" and made me feel really bad about myself (so much for "non-judgemental" and "unconditional acceptance"). I did enjoy art therapy and progressive muscular relax...

It really is a badly-designed question, isn't it? It seems so sensible on a first reading, but the difficulty answering it, and needing to combine the categories means that the question has not captured the issue of interest. For me, when I was in a research lab was the time when I had good relation...

I think you could have "other arrangements" when you are 25, but not as dismissive as "washing your hair". If you do go, it must be possible to compromise on things that make you really uncomfortable - I will not attend holiday parades unless I am the only adult available to take a child. On the plu...

My earliest memory of being abnormally anxious is when I was 7, and knew I did not fit in.

The first medical opinion was when I was in my early teens and had abdmominal pains that I was referred to hospital with, but the specialist told me that it was neurotic pain.

PDD-NOS is currently the most frequent diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder. One of the biggest upsides of DSM-5 is that NOS will no longer be listed separately, bringing everyone within the ASD diagnosis. The latest CDC prevalence report lists the following diagnostic breakdown (in Table 3): Aut...

I was reading through some guidelines on medication for adults with autistic spectrum disorder, and wonder what (in real life) people are actually prescribed as part of medical management of ASD. The main treatments, all for non-core symptoms, seem to be antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs and anti-...

I have got to some kind of summary of my own criteria of "being ASD", which are (in order of priority): 1. Feeling "different" from other people, and being continuously reminded of it 2. Having a lot of verbal and social misunderstandings 3. Liking order and predictability more than most people 4. N...
