| I know the noise is overwhelming... Does anyone think they're really sensitive to smells also? Crowds - perfume, BO, bad breath, food... I get hit with smells. My family laughs at me - they say if the neighbor next door farts I can smell it. It's not like I WANT to, but sometimes smells are soooo cl... |

| I'm tall - it's not the height of people that bothers me. It's being touched by people I don't know that I can't deal with. Call it a personal space issue - the more crowded a place is - the worse it is for me. I can do big gatherings, but it's on my terms. If I have an "escape route" - or place to ... |

| @ Misty: I think a lot of it also has to do with the difference in how NT's think, view and relate to things as opposed to those on the spectrum. I don't understand why you are saying that to me in particular. It's a good statement. I've certainly no objection to it. But I don't see how it relates ... |

I really hope my daughter can say that someday too. I think she's learning. |

| @ Misty: I think a lot of it also has to do with the difference in how NT's think, view and relate to things as opposed to those on the spectrum. From my own experiences I am able to help my daughter along. The process is slow but it is geared toward her becoming confident when she starts stepping o... |

| What kind of growth are you asking about? There are so many different kinds of growth. People do "grow" and change. But much of it depends upon their willingness to grow and change and the support they have in their growth and change. It really not easy to go out and try new things, not even for NT'... |

| My daughter is the opposite - complete neat freak. To the point of cleaning EVERYTHING in the house and liking things orderly. She wasn't always like that - her room was like a tornado zone. She absolutely went nuts when I'd try to go in an clean it up. BUT once it was orderly - she was okay with it... |

| I didn't vote because there was no option that said "it depends" or something to that effect. If it was something that is considered unhygienic or socially taboo like sticking hands down pants in public then I would definitely work hard to help the child control it in public. At home I wouldn't wor... |

| My daughter is now 14. Diagnosed ten years ago. When she was younger - she rocked and "wriggled" most of the time. It was a distraction to her class mates, but something she just did without realizing it. We found that by simply putting a hand on her arm (gently) and telling her that she was doing t... |

Thanks - it's been a good day.
First year in a long time that the loss of my own Mom didn't make me feel so 'orphanish'. The kids really made the day a good one. |

| When browsing at the jewelry store, my daughter - instead of ooohing and aaahing - tells me how all of the metals (gold, titanium, silver, etc) are listed on the periodic elements table. Including all of the important stuff like atomic weight and number, isotopes, who discovered it... Yikes - gives ... |

| LOL @ 'thingy' --- one of my personal favorite descriptives! I know - with those basic scores and no explaination, you would see everything as 'normal' - but once it's all broken down and you see how much they can swing from one area to another - it can be a real eye opener. My son is ADHD - he's co... |

| My daughter just had her tests through school, they gave me a 15 page report. They do the ASDS. They also did Wechsler IQ. Each part of the test and all of the sections were explained as well as changes in scores from previous tests (she is tested every 3 years). Each of her teachers fill out the AS... |

LOL @ Starting a conversation in the middle of a thought... I do that too, drives people nuts!
I think maybe you just over analyzed stuff that I said - I tend to do that sometimes too.
No harm - No foul. |

I also read the other replies and your responses to those. I was going to go back and read it AGAIN - but you deleted it. One thing you ... |
