Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Do you wish you were never born? Do you think about suicide

Not anymore. As a kid I used to think about suicide frequently. Once the other kids learned how short my fuse was, lighting it became their favorite sport. I'd get in trouble for fighting, and nobody ever seemed to be the least bit interested in what the other children had done to provoke me, even w...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: planning your vacations according to your own preferences

During my holidays and, if I were ever to have one, paid vacation from work, my preference would be to stay home and avoid other people. A vacation from other people sounds much more appealing than going to someplace crowded with tourists. Whoever said "hell is other people" can be my spokesman any ...

I hate holidays. It is so effing frustrating for me when a holiday comes along and disrupts my routine. I need my routine! Christmas is the worst. The shows I watch are pre-empted by stupid holiday specials, the businesses I frequent are closed, the bus schedules are changed, the oldies station star...

I have a tendency to run imaginary conversations in my head, either rehearsing the way I am going to say something to someone and imagining their responses, or just imagining what it might be like to talk to some historical person like King James I. Apparently, my facial expressions change according...

I've been told often that I take things too literally and can't recognize rhetorical questions.
What's really happening is that I'm making a joke and THEY'RE taking it too literally.

Of course, I always forget to say "How are you" back to them, and end up saying it after a long pause, which makes me seem kind of stupid. I'd much prefer, however, if after I had said how are you, they would respond with something moderately interesting. Then it could lead to more conversation (th...

This question used to baffle me every time, and I went thru a long phase where I'd answer honestly, which people sometimes took well and sometimes not. Lately I have been answering with "Well enough" or some times "tall" ( I'm male and 5'10"), which really flummoxes some people. Well, now they know ...

People are always thinking that I'm angry, or being sarcastic, when I don't mean to give that impression. It's the facial expression.
When I have what I think is a neutral, relaxed expression, people think I'm scowling. I've had difficulty holding jobs because of this.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What does the one word - faith - mean to you?

Faith is the enemy of reason.

Faith means choosing to believe something which there is no rational reason to believe.

Having faith means choosing to be a sucker.

My first post: I just discovered this board, dont know if I'm an aspie but definitely not NT. My whole life I've struggled with this & other social 'grease'. I know what the expected response is, but I just can't bring myself to say it. It's difficult for me to say or do many things that are so ...
