I really like the word theodolite. I don't repeat it out loud, just play it in my head. It's been a favourite for many years now. I also like transom. I think there's lots of words I'm partial to but I can't think of any more right now, as it's way past my bedtime.

Most people have traits which fit along a continuum of severity, and it's how many and how severe that makes the difference between AS and NT. The traits get shuffled just like any other group of traits, it seems. Your child might get the lot from one end of the continuum of severity, or from the ot...

So, I accept that there's laziness, which I can overcome with an effort of will, and there's executive disfunction, which I can talk myself through, a bit. What do I do on those dreadful days when I notice things without judgement if I notice them at all, my co-ordination has failed me, and I can't ...

I tend to agree with Maolcolm, I can see traits in people, but most people will have perceptible traits. If they have lots of traits, I might think ''wonder if you're Aspie?'' But, hey, even with a Dx I wonder if I'm really Aspie. How can it be that my oddness and differentness has a name? But possi...

Hello Megan, good to meet you. I'm new too. Read your novel, wonder what happened 4 - 5 months ago that instigated the change in your communication style? Does that coincide with the new job and new people? New people and environment have been known to shut me up like a clam, or render me mysterious...

Trains, and Starwars! No, not really. Cyclic obsessions have included Marc Bolan and T Rex, Buster Keaton, Richard O'Brian (?) of Rocky Horror Picture Show, illustrations of Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, Winsor McCay, Erte. Paintings of Ilya Repin. Longer term - physiology, psychology, etymology, makin...

I was going to write that it wasn't so in my experience because I tend to be aloof, and who would feel like mothering someone who was standoffish. On reflection, however, the few friends I have had have either taken me up as a cause - new girl, victimized girl, excluded girl - or as an accessory. Th...

I'm irked that my son's school report equates ''effort'' with ''results''. You can be turning yourself inside out with ineffectual effort which fails to produce the expected results. How does that make the effort invalid?

Much less so with men, mostly, however. Does it make a difference to you? I find it easier to communicate with men than women, generally. I as well. I get along horribly with other girls, for the most part, and feel more comfortable with guys (not that I am great at socializing with them either, bu...

I would say that I believe in the book 'The man who mistook his wife for a hat' Oliver Sacks says that he's seen a few people who can't sense where their body is, and that they took a lot of B12 supplements. Again, this is a belief I can't defiantly remember. and it's also only a belief of Oliver S...

It does take a lot of energy to do this. If I'm not feeling strong I don't even try (and the default face is blank). There have been occasions when I've had to apologize and go away because I was tired and unable to judge, and it all goes haywire then stops. Gotta run away and rest then. I agree, mu...

This all makes beautiful sense. I get stuck, I get fixated and perseverate, I am unable to do a task because I can't understand it, then another day am able to do it with almost no effort - 'though those days don't happen as often as I need them to. I'm happier calling it problems with executive fun...

I do this. I do watch people and have for as long as I can remember - probably usually with a blank expression reflecting my lack of comprehension. If someone displays some interesting concatenation of expressions I think about them and what emotions they indicate, which I can usually figure out giv...

Hello people, I'm in Sydney. Nice to be here among you. Tell me, those who know, the provenance of the Brisvegas label? Pardon my ignorance, but I like it, and I wonder where it came from. Also, I'm interested to know if y'all have hypersensitivities in any particular areas, and what they are? I'm v...
