I am fairly sure they are illegal - checked the laws and the only days any fireworks are allowed at all are 4th of July, New Year's Eve and New Years day but they are set off sporadically all around these dates and on Christmas. Plus in the cities only 'Commercial' fireworks are allowed meaning only...

I recently moved to a new state and people set fireworks off here at new years. I'm talking about full-blown professional type fireworks being set off in neighborhoods by everyday people. It's illegal, but so many do it that the police can't handle it and look the other way. I usually like to sleep ...

I'm sorry you're feeling isolated. When I was in grad school the socializing I got from classes and lab meetings was enough. We all shared an office too. Is there anyone you might like to ask out to do something you like to do either one on one or as a small group? Maybe just lunch if you are short ...

Thanks! Those are great tips. I will try not to worry if they don't shift a little or respond to a comment. What about nonverbal communication? I've been thinking it would be best to smile and make eye contact, particularly when trying to make a comment. I think a big part of the trouble is that I c...

Any advice on how to approach/join a group that is casually talking to one another at a social function?
Also on how to disengage from such a group?
Thanks!

Working at a zoo can be really terrific. I volunteered at a zoo in high school and may go back if being a biologist is too stressful. If you want to try being a zookeeper I recommend volunteering someplace first. It'll get you valuable experience and allow you to find out if you really want to do th...

I can't stand the cold - which I define as anything under about 50 F in winter and 70 F in summer. I like the 80s. I can tolerate higher temps pretty well, even into the low 100s as long as there's enough water. If I'm in anything approximately 70-73F or cooler without a jacket for very long my fing...

I think the book “Asperger Syndrome and Anxiety: A Guide to Successful Stress Management” by Nick Dubin is pretty good. I haven’t finished it yet, but it is rated highly on Amazon. Of course no self-help book is an automatic quick fix, but what I have read has been interesting and I think it will al...

Absolutely! Most normal people still seem weird to me, but it’s been getting better. In middle school I thought the other kids were border-line crazy, but now it’s only every now and then that someone will do something I don’t understand. Sometimes the reverse will happen and I’ll be talking to some...

I am either asexual or demisexual, I don't know which because I have never been very close to anyone. It doesn't make me feel less human, but that might just be because I don't talk to other people much and thus I am very removed from what is considered "normal". The few times I have attempted a rel...
