I've been reading online about Aspie adults burning out when they are middle aged. Does this actually happen? I hope this doesn't happen to me.

This forum is really just for introductions and saying a bit about yourself; though sometimes members give more details and get more feedback. This forum isn't as fast moving as General Autism Discussion but it also has less viewers, so while your thread may hang around longer it will also likely b...

This thoughtful, French film (subtitled): 'My Best Friend' received very good reviews; a film that was "quite a find" at my local public library. The character (an Antique dealer); a middle-aged adult challeged to make friends (who may have Aspergers - no references of Aspergers made in film) by col...

In essence, Asperger adults periodcally need to consult with advisors when self advocacy alone is not enough!

Action plans are best done by collective efforts of individuals e.g., grassroots efforts. Contact agencies like the Asperger Society, Autism Society, and/or Aspergers agencies in the nearest large city. Many agencies offer memberships available at reasonable fees. Become a member, attend meetings in...

Regarding resources (or more accurately the lack of resources/awareness) for Asperger adults, reassessing the sixth post in discussion ‘On Independence’ is a good bet! In short, much of the lack of progress regarding helpful resources, awareness of Aspergers, etc. etc. is like the classic self-fulfi...

No, an AS community is not possible. The NT world will always be "in the loop!" The best bets are to increasingly involve and educate the whole gambit of thoughtful NTs on Aspergers. The Aspergers community has only "scrathed the surface" on finding and bringing these awesome NTs "into the loop." It...

This may be one favorable indicator of extensive exp...

GOAL: To apply what is learned from case-studies of model independent living resources, and to extend to resources i.e, advocacy elsewhere...b...

As mentioned throughout discussions, agencies like AASCEND.net, GRASP.org, and Autism, or Asperger Societies would recommend licensced low cost Accountants who've had some type of personal/professional experiences with Aspergers adults. Regarding the marketing of skills, the best-bets are to investi...

The LINK 'On Independence' discusses the need to reasse...

Thank-you for your responses in this thread. I sense it's best to refrain from debating (and splitting hairs) regarding the content of my posts in this thread.....'On Independence.' What would probably boost the discussion of assisting Asperger adults with independence is for agencies such as GRASP....

Asperger adults can boost independence (in the eyes of their families); both through self-advocacy, as well as judgment as to when to enlist trustworthy advisors/advocates to assist with those "more complicated agendas!" For example, has anybody found the purchase of an automobile a daunting task (e...

There is a similar thread 'How Many of You Live on Your Own?' -- that is many on the Autism Spectrum need some supports; hence the 'self-sufficient" can be a misnomer.
