Does anyone have a child with pica? Has it gotten worse or better as they get older? My son is 7 and always has to be chewing on a toy or clothes. He also licks, sucks, and chews on his fingers a lot. He eats bugs, chews on clothing and towels to the point of strings coming out of his backside (tmi...

I'm going to be honest. At first I was quite disheartened by the thought of my son having Autism. I had certain visions of his childhood and adulthood and it became obvious they did not match reality. However, after losing my daughter to a terminal disorder (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) I realized that...

Erik (7) wants lego stuff, ninjago stuff, and video games. He's been asking for a telescope for a while and I got him a cheapish kids one a few months ago and it fell apart in one day. I may wait and get a more expensive one for his birthday next year. Eta: I also got him this human body book with ...

My 7 year old son is very good at computer and video games. He has loved the computer since he was VERY young. He also puts together intricate things with legos, and is great at puzzles. On the flip side he has terrible handwriting and can't tie his shoes.

This kind of reminds me of my son's second grade teacher this year. She put emphasis on the most trivial things. "He doesn't put his folder away properly, he chews on his pencils and clothes, he doesn't maintain eye contact, he doesn't track properly when reading, he forgets to push his chair in, h...

I knew it! I don't really get it, but I find it somewhat amusing. Not sure why. |

I am quite new to all this, so I am slowly learning :) My DS wiggles his shoulders really fast and flaps his arms (a bit) but more when he is excited or happy. He also licks his hands and arms, but doesnt do that as much :? All this summer when wearing sandals my son kept licking his fingers then r...

Oh, and my son's stims are at home running back and forth, jumping and waving arms in front of TV and squealing and sometimes wrist flicking and flapping. In public when he's talking he'll shake, wave his hands and sometimes one arm when he's talking, but seems to be very aware of this and tries to ...

Both when upset and when excited/happy. I pace a lot in both circumstances. Also I do stuff with music, e.g. sing songs, in both circumstances. You know it's odd, before I got on this forum I never even thought about compulsively pacing as a stim. My father, brother and I all do this and I have sin...

I seem to have noticed a lot of people on the spectrum say they stim the most when stressed or upset. My son seems just the opposite. He stims the most at home when he's relaxed and content and happy. And also rarely in public when he's talking about something he's excited about. When do you or your...

I really really don't like the idea of medication in a young child...(Ya, I know everyone says that probably). Also my family hasn't had good luck with Prozac in the past. I suppose I'm open to anything though as time goes on. The thing is, these meltdowns and crying over trivial things pretty much...

My son Erik just started the second grade this year. Since he was a young, I have always noticed Autistic traits in him. He lacked eye contact, was very resistant to change, very sensitive to sounds, smells, textures, etc. He also had a speech delay, He talked in mainly vowel sounds and didn't reall...
