Can I ask a question ? Could you rephrase just the title of this thread "playing the autism card" - this time without using a metaphor ? I haven't a clue what it means and how playing the autism card can be harmful to humanity. I have read the entire thread - maybe I missed something but I don't und...

A while ago, I asked if people would appreciate having a therapist who also was on the spectrum.

IMO they would be more likely to get what you are talking about -

I got quite a few posts back saying aspies couldn't be therapists.

Which made me laugh.

Don't forget, aspies could never be counsellors or therapists or social workers .. .

... we just don't have any theory of mind, ability to retain information and can't empathise

we only do IT and counting....

lots and lots of counting

and categorising stuff when we're not writing code.

It is my impression that a routine-person would insist on everything being exactly the same every day. Therefore, I don't see myself as a routine fanatic. I am disorganized and my CD collection is most definitely not meticulously aligned and arranged in alphabetical order! I don't get a nervous bre...

In fact, the voice of Cruella DeVille is based on the voice of an autistic female. I enjoy movies so I tried to find out where you got this reference from - the only reference I could find is that the original 101 Dalmatians voice actress for Cruella said she based it on the 1920s actress Tallulah ...

Hi, I'm 27, happily married, and have children. Will those things make it unlikely for me to get a diagnosis of ASD? I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder several years ago and took 80mg Paxil daily. I saw a psychologist once a month and also saw a psychologist every other week. After four y...

I think there is an attempt at bullying going on in this thread - this is why I think a moderator should get involved.

That's interesting - I haven't noticed anyone on any of the WP threads expressing how great their social life was . . .! !! ! I would have thought anyone regularly posting on this site has an unusual social life compared to the norm... this isn't a bit of snark I'm detecting is it ? Well her...
