Yes you can be diagnosed with ADHD as an adult in the UK. I was provisionally diagnosed initially with ADHD and given Concerta, when it did absolutely nothing helpful and they did a full developmental history (the initial ADHD diagnosis was made after a one-hour appointment) my psych decided it was ...

I will often wear the same clothes for days at a time unless I'm going outside in which case I need a clean shirt, maybe one that's been worn once if say I went to the shops for an hour the previous day and then changed straight into 'inside' clothes when I came home. My inside clothes are always ba...

I play both but probably mostly retro. I have a Wii but no other current gen consoles, though I really want a 3DS. My absolute favourite console of all time has to be the Mega Drive (Genesis) and after that my PS2 probably gets the most use for both PS1 and PS2 games. I collect classic consoles from...

Taking anti-depressants without a mood stabiliser made me seriously ill, continuous rapid cycling for about a year with mixed episodes from hell. Since I've been on mood stabilisers I don't get mixed episodes, I don't get hypomania either but I don't really miss it because I tended to get dysphoric ...

I came off mirtazapine about 6 weeks ago from 15mg to 0, having gone down from 30 to 15 about 6 weeks before. I had trouble sleeping for a few nights and a lack of energy for a couple of weeks. I'm still on 2 mood stabilisers, Seroquel and Lamictal though so not completely without meds which no doub...

My hearing fluctuates around the level which is considered mild hearing loss, some frequencies by up to 30dB. This is partly due to issues with congestion which means my eustachian tubes get blocked up. The congestion is a side-effect of one of my meds along with hayfever, I get some good from antih...

Metal painted tables - the sort they often have outside cafes. Touching them makes my skin crawl. Also the sound of chairs scraping across the floor, particularly those plastic chairs with metal frames that schools seemed to be filled with. Ick.

I don't see the harm in asking as long as you ask politely and respect her decision if she says no. Maybe "I don't like going down because I find the hair unpleasant, would you be open to the idea of shaving or trimming it? Would you prefer it if I also shaved or trimmed my own?" Trimming can make i...

my experience is that they won't read it. just answer the questions that are asked. I've read more than one post on here where providing a few pages to read makes the doctor/GP take one look at it and then do a referral. They might not read it or understand it, but they can't ignore it either so it...

Dentists now seem to be a lot more aware of how to deal with nervous patients. Dental Fear Central has recommendations for dentists who are good with phobic patients, we found our current dentist from there. I take headphones and my mp3 player or my phone with me with tight-fitting in ear headphones...

It might help to look at the mark schemes for past exam papers if he hasn't done this already, this shows exactly what the examiners are looking for and what details will get marks in an essay. You can download them from the websites of the exam boards, google the name and you should find it.

Socially autistic is an oxymoron. Anyway, even with technology people are still as social as possible. It is called 'social media' for a reason. Exactly. Some people seem to have established a false causality between the internet and autism - lots of autistic people use the internet, therefore auti...

I'm an atheist. My family are atheists but I tried to be religious for a few years when I was very ill. Once I got better I realised I was only interested in religion from an academic perspective and that I didn't really "believe", I just wanted to have something to hold on to during that time.
