I was going to post this in pieces as replies to other posts, but I thought in would be better all in one place (and someone might benefit from it) so I started a new thread. I am really bad at interviews, and first impressions of all kinds, but I am good at what I do. If I can get hired, I do well,...

too funny you asked that. I have been going to school off and on part time for several years now, pursuing an aerospace engineering degree. (I have my associates, just need more classes to get my bachelor degree.) Unfortunately, due to my job situation and the scheduling of said classes, this has be...

So I'm wondering what to do about making sure I can get the education that is my right to have. * Contact your local AS support and service organization and ask them for personal references for educational assistants, as well as asking for names of anyone on the school staff or faculty who is well-...

I have a tough time with conversations; usually it's me talking for a bit, or me listening to other people talk and trying to think of something relevant to say without taking over the conversation. If I ask someone a question to start a "casual" conversation, usually it's because i want them to ans...

I just wear cheap sunglasses because I either break or lose them all too often. The one time I bought pair of fairly expensive sunglasses (Porshe Carerra folding ones), I wore them to the beach five days after buying them, and a wave came and hit me, and the Gulf stole them from me. :-( I currently ...

I don't really know if I am qualified to make that assessment, since I don't have any of those tendencies, nor have I studied pschology much. However, I am a creative person, and at times have wished in vain to have hallucinations, and sometimes liked to imagine I had 'borg implants, and I am usuall...

ok, been on the new meds (Concerta) for a few days now, and have a feel for the effect and side effects. This is the medicine for ADD. It does help me focus much more; I feel like someone just buffed me with Clarity (if you are an EQ player, you will understand). But it also seems to make me more co...

My AS may have been a cause for me to smoke. Growing up, both of my parents smoked, as did all of their friends. My sister, brother, and I allthought it was disgusting and vowed to never do it and hated being around it. My sister refused to go on our family trip one year because of it (she was 24, I...

OK, I had my visit this morning, and my doc is one who thinks only drugs can help, or at least that is her only job. She did ask if I wanted couselling as well, and recommended a psychologist in her office for that. I told her at the beginning of the session I had 3 conditions, and said what they we...

I hae always been asocial outcast, but several of my jobs have required me to not only coordinate with other employees, but also to help the customers. As long as I am knowledgable about something I do great, but when it comes to small talk or suggestions, I stumble and fall alot. I'm sure many of y...

Anyway, which technique do you favor, drugs, counseling or both? I like both. Well, I have never had any decent counselling that worked; it's only made me paranoid. Maybe some group sessions with other aspies might be better. And I've been on some decent meds, but they all had odd side effects. So ...

Tomorrow, for the first time in about 5 years, I am going to a new shrink. Ths isn't just a new doctor for me, this is the first visit in over 5 years. The purpose of the visit is treatment for my ADD so I can study again, and I am curious what she will say about my AS. The last shrink I had wasn't ...

I do this sort of thing all the time. I miss the innuendos about drugs the most. I'm often embarrassed when I realize what the song is really talking about. I usually don't get the drug references, either. I guess because I'm not a user. Is that what "Borderline" is about? It sounds like some kind ...

In retrospect it seems rather naive for me to have wondered why The Starland Vocal Band would designate sky rockets in flight as an afternoon rather than evening delight.... Hmm, I never paid attention to those lyrics. A little before my time, tho I do remember it growing up. Now, if you rea...
