i’m pretty sure the sun would almost instantly destroy anything we have to throw at it. Some things would probably make it well into the corona, but with serious heat damage. Considering that it is about 5,000,000 kilometers thick (I looked it up), not much would make it all the way through the cor...

Anything but my real full name is just an insult. Everyone who knows me knows this to be absolutely and unequivocally true about me. Perhaps this has something to do with misread intentions from others and being unable to read them properly when somebody uses a nickname? Whether or not it's an insu...

Great presidents are unifiers not divisive, with leadership ability and personal stability. As Trump has none of these, re-election would be a disaster for the USA, it will be marginalised by the international community and its traditional allies will be unlikely to want to continue alliances that ...

In one apartment I lived in near the Johnson Space Center in Houston, each apartment had an assigned parking space. But when someone else parked in your space, they refused to do anything to have the vehicle towed. Someone used to regularly park his pickup in my parking space and I did my best to tr...

There were even slaves among the Buddhists, but they did kind of lead the rest of the world in coming out against the practice. From http://www.buddhisma2z.com/content.php?id=384 : The Buddha said that the buying and selling of human beings is a wrong means of livelihood for lay people (A.III,208) a...

Also, I used to get called "Billy Jack" because I wore a flat brimmed black hat everywhere. I couldn't figure it out because except for the flat brim, the hat in the Billy Jack movies was quite a bit different. Here's Billy Jack with his hat on in the movies: http://www.amam-magazine.com/b...

I once had a roommate who had the nickname of "Taco". He hated the name but couldn't get rid of it. Once he moved to another city, he didn't tell anyone about the name and from what I've been told, he isn't called that any more.

Since we have no cooking forum here, I guess this is as good a place as any. Years ago, I used to go pretty often to a very good little family owned Italian restaurant in Houston. One of my favorite dishes was something called "Chicken ala Mama" which I assume means "Chicken like Mama...

You can't read anything (including Fox News) that doesn't have some sort of bias against him. When Obama was in office, news was just news. It wasn't really in favor ,or disfavor of the President...( Although most liberal media would fawn all over him to the point of being nauseating). It was simpl...

The pedestrian SHOULD have the right-of-way. In some towns, that's the law. In reality, though, cars and trucks are bullies, and usually demand the "right-of-way." I would never assume, as a pedestrian, that I have the "right-of-way." As a pedestrian, you have the right of way i...

The neighbours that argue right behind a thin wall. I swear I will call the police one day. And the fact it is difficult to realize which intercom is calling because all have the same sound and I can hear the intercom from 4 flats in my room(2 sides, up and down). I did miss ours a few times becaus...

A distributed notes system for use by computers on the Internet. The idea popped up in a dream and I worked out some of the details. However, once I woke up and was thinking about it with a clearer head, I think that such an idea wouldn't scale all that well. It would still work good for a collabora...

There was some recent talk on this site several weeks ago about building a retreat (or something like that) for Autistics in the high mountains of New Mexico. They were looking for volunteers to come help build it.

I had an incompetent boss once who would try to put down his male underlings by calling them "Sweetie" or "Honey". Every time he did that, I wanted to punch him in the face.

This thread was linked at the bottom of the "Wee Giftie Fur Auntblabby" thread under "Similar Topics". Two or three days ago, I clicked on it and saw that it was originally from December 6, 2011, so I kept it in mind to post it today.
